69HurstSC, I talked to him Saturday afternoon. I have no idea what # I was on his list. After I heard the $50K offer it didn't matter much because I don't have that kind of cash handy for an emergency car purchase. I got the same story you did and I thought the guy sounded pretty sincere. We both got a chuckle because he said he had all these people calling him wanting to wire him money and knowbody even knew who he was! He said he didn't want to get into the bidding thing and cash made it easier because he was in the mid'st of a divorce. He said the guy from Iowa sounded pretty honest so he made the deal. He also had a rare '67 Chevelle but it didn't have a motor. Maybe he found out the real value of the car and decided to not go through with the $50K deal? Or someone offered alot more and he sold it out from under Clint? We'll probably never know the truth.

IF the car was real, it will resurface somewhere. The speculation that Clint could have been outbid may very well be true. But, if it happened that way someone here knows what happened. I would hope they would step up and say something to stop all this conspiracy finger pointing. Would be in everyone's best interest IMHO.

Scam or not, this is definitely a case of Federal Wire Fraud. If you use any instrumentality of interstate commerce (in plain language, a telephone) in order to further your scam (or practical joke?), you just achieved all the minimum requirements of Wire Fraud. And since this is the case of a car, real or not, who's true worth could be $250 to $500,000, whomever is out any money on this episode should be contacting their local FBI office to report the crime, since this value of the vehicle involved is well above their minimum prosecutorial guidelines.

I made a phone call this morning and found out my name was provided by the seller. I called the seller once, and never talked to the seller or even left a message. it's a major scam !!! the same guy had a 67 427 six pk vette posted last month . basicly the same details , with documentation ect. I cought him on a saterday morning , he agreed to meet me ,but with stipulations i couldn't bring anyone . when i arived to the meeting piont , the garage where the car was ,was not there . he then called me and told me that he was going to pick me up and take me to the car . I then told him , Nahh i'll follow you , i had a friend on stand by for back up that he didn't know of . anyway he was like ok i'll be there in one minute . At this piont i knew something was not right even though i had that feeling all along . As it was he never showed up and never answered the phone either . The sad thing is i couldn't even report this to the police because no crime was done yet , but i had a feeling it was a drop off some where isolated and sickem up robbery .
Don't you think one of us local guys would have bought that car the first day ?

Was the number the same on the Vette ad? I would guess someone is placing ads with a prepaid cell phone. I would think the paper would be able to tell you who placed the ad by the credit card on file.
