Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
This Knafel Pontiac may be a Canadian Pontiac Acadian. I used to see Acadians and Beaumonts (A-body) all the time up in Canada. A few years back at the POCI Nats, a guy had what looked like a 64 Nova, but it was an Acadian with a 427 stuffed under the hood. They never made them with 427's, but it was a cool concept. Definately drew a lot of snooty looks from GTO guys as they passed by, with phrases like "How did that Chevy get in here?" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif
The only reason I think this may be a Knafel Pontiac Acadian is that it appears to have a split grille. |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Figures, all it takes is a few clicks, and voila!
In wagon form.... http://www.americandreamcars.com/1963acadianwagon.htm |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
In the list of Tin Indians, there is a 67 Acadian with a 427.
That's a great picture. It's the first time I saw one of that car. Thanks! Brian |

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Since we're posting photos of old Ponchos; anybody got a photo of the Tiger Gold 1966 Royal GTO Race car?
Not the '66 GeeTO Tigers -- but the Royal car! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif I have scrubbed the web to no avail! Thanks, Mac |

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Some old fart my ***!!!!!
This is just the kind of driver a young fool like me would pull up to a light and think, "shoot I can knock off this old fart, he's probably got a 2 barrel". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Steve - I do not think I would make the 2bl mistake.
In another car maybe, but the 69 T/A just looks quick with no driver. Tom - finally got my HPP a few days ago. That is one good-looking car! Congratulations on your work! Brian |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
thanks guys!It is a nice car but not NEAR as nice as Peter made it look.Tom

I don't know why, but for some reason you with a 69 GTO makes me think the world is complete!!! http://i7.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/0e/88/68_12_sb.JPG https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
By the photo Steve posted, I would say that two-tone looks very much like a Bobcat GTO scheme.

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Tom, I sure hope thats not a scam!! I know who sold that car. It was the same guy I got my judge from. He sold it for alot more than that. After reviewing the guys account who's selling it,he is still buying parts for it. as of last week he bought a mirror for it. And it says its in california, has montana plates, georgia phone exchange I believe. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif SOMETHING LOOKS FISHY TO ME. Anyway I hope you did get it as its a nice car. Sorry about the confusion on my judge but that was a bad week for me. Good luck and MERRY CHRISTMAS!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
I looked at the car myself last sat.It is in Palm Springs. He has another 69 in his garage. The car is a 20 footer.Needs some work but should be good for what I want. The ONLY reason I bid on it is my painter said he could take it in Jan.It does have Montana plates everything looked OK on the car.He told me he paid 17600 for the car,I paid less than that but more than the last bid price.Looked real good underneath, trunk looked real good.I should be able to get some money back on the engine,it has a fresh rebuild, looks correct,48 heads.Painted the wrong color. You broke my heart on the Judge, hope you got a piece of coal in your stocking!LOL,Tom

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
If that's an originally type car, nothing wrong with the price at all. You should be able to polish it up just the way you like and have ever bit as nice a ride as the TA. I love the bench seat, there use to be a white 69 Judge around here with a bench I almost bought. I kick myself in the **** for not getting it.

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Steve,he has the PHS on the car,it is a 2 tone car according to the data plate,55-50.I know the 50 is white, did not lookup the 55.The diecast around the tail lights is not too bad. This is the first car I have bought on ebay that I have actually seen before I bought it,been real lucky. Will pull the engine, send to painter, have him detail the engine compartment also, drop in the V motor and send to a guy in Anahiem to make the headers.Tom

Finally got some time to spend with my father over the holidays.
He has a bunch of info and stories related to the RAV stuff and scrapbooks filled with pictures, letters, and articles. If I ever did see most of this stuff, I certainly do not remember it? When he wanted to get his first set of V heads, he called a good friend of his who ran the parts dept. at Jackshaw Pontiac in Lakewood, Oh. He asked him what parts were involved. My father said he dropped this off to him on his way home. (page 1 attached) Anybody ever seen a sheet like this? |

This was taken at Thompson drag raceway in 79.
These were the 3 RAV cars he was racing that year. The F/B saw double duty as a street car. It had a complete 400 RAV. Best E.T 11.88 though the mufflers with slicks. |

Here is an interesting letter.
Background: When NHRA turned down his request to run Super Stock (another interesting letter), he turned to AHRA. They turned him down at first also. He sent a number of letters asking that they reconsider. He finally got them to agree to review the heads in late 76. They wanted to inspect a head, an intake, proof they were not “experimental” and all the specifications. He sent a letter to Alex Mair asking for help. He asked: 1) How many engines were made and how many were put in cars? 2) How many were manufactured? 3) For what purpose? 4) Were the heads available over the parts counter? This letter at least got AHRA to believe they were made. He then needed Tom Nell’s help with the specifications. |

That is absolutely some sweet stuff!!!!! Which one of the guys in the pic is your dad? |

Would you believe none of them?
He wanted to take the picture. They were all friends of his. Mike drove the F/B that night. Gary drove the Sunbird and my father drove the 63. He just did not want the 63 to be by itself in the picture, so he had another friend of his stand by it. This is a picture of the 63 when the full SD motor was in it. That is my father in it looking like he is ready to pull a gear. It is very hard to see especially in the scan, but at that time, the car still had “Edwards Pontiac” on it and “John Edwards Jr.” on the roof. They had just been painted over. Brian |
Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Very cool pic.....one of the few 13:1 compression cars sold too....I had a pretty cool PHS'd Marlin Aqua 63 421HO 4 speed sedan a while back...sedans were pretty cool.

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
For my New Years fun, and not RAV, but fun non the less. I jumped ship on my plan to use a RPM Performer. Instead I'm going with my old tripower, but I have some huge port mods to make. Better than out drinking at some bar?

Re: RAIV and RAV more continuation....
Here's an interesting thread on PY about the RAV:
NEW RA-V Engine Program POLL I had just talked to Jim Butler about some current engine stuff I am using him on and casually asked if he had ever thought about producing an alminum RAV head, he said there was no market. I kinda disagree with that, but everyone has their opinion. Then this thread pops up on PY, I don't know if anyone has the ability and seriously considering but I'm all for it. |
