This car is down at the end of my block. Been sitting there for at least 15 years, but at least he got rid of the Winnabago that was sitting next to it for almost as long.
Some of the neighbors arn't real happy about it, but he insists that "Someday, blah blah blah..."

I posted this car before, but for the first time in 4 years they almost pushed it into the garage. Snow just brings out the best in people. BTW, the driver's window is still open. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Not quite a backyard find, but I just bought a '69 Ram Air IV Firebird. It was in a backyard when I picked it up.

Ran onto a '66 Bonneville conv., 421, 4spd, air, tilt, etc but don't know jack about Pontiacs. Haven't seen car yet but understand it's pretty rough. Anybody know any good Pontiac sites that might tell me something about it? Rare enough to persue?

Re: Backyard finds today

We have found some cars like this in our small town in Louisiana.

One Sunday morning my dad and I picked up the local newspaper to have or usually browse through the classified section. To our shock we found a 2nd owner '69 Vette 435hp conv. w/29k actual miles. The guy had owned the car since '72 and was moving overseas forcing him to sell. The car ended up being about a mile away from home, and when we arrived, there were two other people looking at the car and talking to the owner. Luckily they left, and were we able to pursue the owner. It was hard to attempt to talk to him cause the phone would be ringing and ringing, or neighbors would show up asking about the car. My dad finally had to act at that exact moment and we struck a deal. To our luck after we purchase the car the guy hands over "some of the stuff he'd kept over the years". Which is the original bill of sale, POP, and every piece of any work down on the car since it was bought new.

Another car thats local to me is a '67 Firebird 400 Conv. w/ factory air, fold down seat, etc., that the owner had for about 15 years. I was lucky enough to get that car, but as you can imagine it's not in the condition of my father's Vette, because I'm only 21 and that's all I could afford.

That same owner has '67 Vette Coupe 350hp 4 spd, bolt ons, side pipes, that is rotting away to nothing. He won't sell that car, cause "he's goin restore it someday".

And right down the street from him is a guy that has a '65 Vette 350hp 4/sped factory air Conv. He won't sell it cause it's his last piece of youth.

Sorry for the long ramble I just enjoy stories like these https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Backyard finds today

He's just a local guy that is burned out on muscle cars, there are probably all still sitting in the same spot. I even think he has one of those all aluminum BB's for the pace car, and you wouldn't believe the rest of the cars not in the photo. I think he has around 400 throughout the trees.

Wow, you just found a totally cool Poncho! Sticks are rare in Bonnies . . . I know the number is in the Standard Book of Cars printed by Old Cars, but I don't have it with me. I bet only 200 cars were sticks. This is a ragtop with a 421. Damn. Is it tripower? This car is about as good as it gets apart from a Super Duty.

Probably repeatedly. lol

How about a 73 Formula 400? Owner doesn't intend to sell, and will make good on his offer to restore it someday. Plans are an aluminum pontiac motor-- 468 to be exact. He's got some pretty good heads too that are on it now, #16's from a '68 428. Been in storage for 2 years after busting the cam and bending some valves.

if its in a safe dry place as it appears to be more power to him, but as for those people who just let cars rot that could otherwise be restored there is a muscle car hell for them somewhere https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: Backyard finds today

Mine was a '69 Firebird. Original owner parked in 1976 because of a bad starter. Carefully kept it tarped outside which caused the vinyl to stay damp and eat the roof. Second owner bought it from him and also couldn't figure out the starter (bracket was too tough)! I removed the starter and had it running in a week. It's a nice original car that I can hopefully save (quarters and bits of the floorpan are gone too) sad that no one took the time to fix it...neat that the chrome slotted steel mags had TUBES in them and the Sun tach still looks good!

Around here rotting and not for sale?
1972 SS 350 Camaro, not for sale and has finally sunk past the rockers, "I'm gonna restore it someday." Got chased off last time by an irate wife and weiner dog! Probably no longer repairable.

1970 RS/SS 350 camaro in a junkyard, asking price $2750, seized engine, no floorpans, no rockers, interior water damaged beyond belief would break in two if you tried to move it...was driven in and used to be a solid car.

1968 SS 396 same yard asking $6500, same condition except it's only a shell and the roof's caved in.

Three Mustangs, 1967, 1968, and 1969 Fastbacks. All are to be restored, he bought them ten years ago and is keeping them because he won't be able to afford to buy them later...too bad he can't turn a wrench (has his work done at a garage) or figure out what damp soil under the cars does to them (garage too full of old newspapers), Will NEVER be restored or sold, they'll be hauled off as scrap metal after he dies.
