He's complaining about Ben getting a big block with dual quads through the hood versus his small block with a single Holley, but Ben's car was originally a big block and Danny's Camaro was originally a small block... :dunno: I told him he's getting a stout 327 build by ole timer Pete Serio, and we are swapping the PG for an M20, and prob going with a 3.73 posi instead of the 3.08 open..... and it's an original RS. What's not to like!

For those not on FB, its coming along.....
- Many hours aligning the sheetmetal so we could install: - Marker light, eyebrow and hood lip moldings - RH body side moldings, after many hours of aligning, string lining, marking, drilling - good thing I restored the original moldings several weeks ago! - LH body side moldings went on much quicker than the RH, experience.... :D - RH and LH wing windows, run channel, window fuzzies, side glass and frame moldings.... |
….
…. Wow … You guys are really doing a great job with that Nova  ... :youguysrock: |

We got a little sidetracked when Ben's 2001 Trans Am decided to hydro lock after a freak set of circumstances (car only has 65k miles and it occurred on startup, not over revving...), and sent rod #6 right through the side of the block. We just brought that home 2 nights ago, he learned a lot on that project too!!!

Might as well install a shift kit (muuuuch more involved versus the ole TH350's!!!), a trans cooler, new flywheel and a new torque converter (3600 RPM stall... but, he's learning what it's like to drive that on the street! :D ) Upgraded to a hi perf fuel pump, 42# injectors, new pump wiring, etc.... my bank account feels like it went on forever... But, that smile after it was tuned and hit 'the number' on the dyno pull.... priceless!

Marlin...so cool! :)

That's awesome memories right there.

The memories are indeed awesome, but if they could be a little less expensive that would be nice....

I don't log on much, quite busy with the kids and cars!
We hit the completion date of April 1st, by 1 day.... and he took it to his Prom and a few car shows, and to High School one day.... |
What a car! Nice job Dad. Building that with him also built memories that can't be bought. Congratulations.

The Trans Am is the gift that keeps giving....to him!! I decided to just install a fully built transmission back in March, this thing put 420HP to the rear tire and there was no way the original trans w/ a shift kit was going to handle that. The fab 9" rear with 4.10's and new wheels / stickies are next. He ran a 12.20 ET last Friday night, in good air that'll be in the high 11's and def in the 11's with the 4.10 gear over the stock 3.23's.
What kid drives an 11 second street car to High School every day..... |
Very nice. How does it do on the street with the tunnel ram?
|
That Nova is killer, great job.
|
Excellent

That Nova is fantastic! Great job.

Awesome stuff Marlin, thanks for sharing. I love that you share your family on the book of Faces ;), too!
|
That is awesome! I hope my kids are interested in cars at that age.

So, we did the Eastwood show with both Novas, and are registered for the Motorama Show in Harrisburg, PA next February (just Ben's Nova...) hoping someone will walk by and recognize it from when it was sold new in the Harrisburg, PA area.
Scored a cool license plate from the local speed shop in Lemoyne, PA where Sunderland Chevrolet was located. The T/A indeed hit the 11's back in October!! So, it's only a matter of time b4 it spits that dinky 7.5" rear with 3.23's and worn out posi.... Upgrade arrived, suspension stuff (control arms, upper & lower, sway bar, panhard bar and track arm...all adjustable units) arrives today. I keep telling him to go to college already, it will be cheaper!! He's a really great kid, can't believe it all went this fast.... |
If he isn't interested in college then send him to vocational school and have him learn to weld or do machine work, or both. These skills have helped me tremendously with the car hobby, and made me a great living.
|
I hear ya, but with a 790 score outta 800 possible on the Math portion of the SAT - he's headed to college!!! It's just a matter of where....
