Installing the rad support with the bushings is an easy one man job IF you use the factory speed nuts or push on retainers, otherwise you feel like you are at least ONE arm short.

FWIW these are called out and illustrated in the AIM, it's just no one puts them in the hardware kits.

Thanks James. I'll see if I can find a couple of those...Joe

I know you haven't seen much of my project in a while. I've bee waiting for the fenders to return from striping. I do work on the car every week day & save the weekends for Sheri & I.

Today I decided to re-install the subframe assy. If you've never install a big block with a/c you would swear they don't fit. First added the tape over the rear frame mount hole is the body.

After about 3 hours of moving the assy around, I finally got it in place & tightened down before removing the body/chassis alignment pins. Mostly have to work by myself because of the virus. There's always somebody here in case I get pinned of something stupid like that...Joe

Looks awesome Joe. Always an exciting point when the motor gets installed. Keep up the great work my friend. 👏

Looking good Joe

Just out of curiosity and because 2 yellow Camaro are being restored at the same time, what’s the pros and cons of motor in before fenders vs fenders on.
I’ve not restored a car like this so just wondering?
On another note, it sure would be cool to get them together for some photos one day!

Actually I was waiting for the fenders to return but I need to get this car put back together. My thought were to line up all the front sheet metal & just roll everything under the assm body. I now think that might've been more of a burden on this car. Everything is real tight. I've done it both ways on the Camaros.

MCACN would be a good place for these 2 cars to meet. We'll see what the future brings.
Graeme is in Canada & I'm 60 miles from the other border.....Joe

Thats exactly how I did my car. (Just like Joe). I had a rolling subframe with complete engine and trans and rolled it to the body. It was easier to install the fuel and brake lines this way too. I hooked all that up and then placed wheel wells and fenders. I thought it went very smooth.

Nicolas09 12-17-2020 07:06 PM

Looks absolutely amazing! Only hope I have something one day that looks as good. Keep the updates and pics coming. Love them!!!

----I did 3 69 Z's this way. It was easy for two people, and not much harder for one which is how I did all three.....Bill S

It seems like this project has been keeping you busy for the past few months. I guess this build is going well so far and honestly, I can't wait to see how it will turn out.

I haven't been to my page in a while but I did finish up all the little stuff on the rear of the car. I have another headliner that I purchased from SMS. So far I like it a lot. That will be starting tomorrow.

I hope everybody had a wonderful New Year :)

Joe

I thought I would post a picture of how tight these cars get with a/c & smog. Still more to add. The fenders & wells will make it even tighter...Joe

Oh my gosh. I've had a field day with all the under dash components but I think I finally have it. With a/c everything has to be in the correct order or you start again. Actually had to take the heater assm. back out. I was beginning to think I was going to have to use dzus fasteners...ugh! Radiator now out for repairs. All the harness mostly in place. Radiator cap & gas cap also out being restored. Everything done underside except bleeding brakes. Here's where I'm at. Thanks for following...Joe

NorCam 02-05-2021 11:54 PM

I can appreciate all that Joe. Looking really good on your part too. I'm gonna need to pull my dash cluster out again as the shifter swap means I need a center fuel gauge in the dash so yes...I really do know your pain. (lol)

Keep up the great work. :cool2:

X66 714 02-06-2021 12:17 AM

Thanks Graeme. Just having fun. Sorry you're having to do it again..Joe

Looking great Joe. We'll definitely have to take a cruise out to see it in person when you are done (or if you need help :) )

Thank you. I'm enjoying doing the car. I also get comment which help me to do it correctly....Joe

Dash is finally complete. Console installed & carpet mostly install. I was lucky enough to find a new old stock dash pad. They sure fit different than the repops. When you have thumbs that don't function like they did new, this is a task but I guess good for me...Joe

Wow, beautiful SS. Sure is coming along nicely.

Chuck_Burg 02-26-2021 10:06 PM

I can't believe I haven't seen this build thread. Beautiful Joe! I know what you mean by wanting to be in the booth while your project gets painted.... Looks great!

Jack is ready to put back in it's place once I determine which lug wrench goes with it. The one I found is painted the same color gray with a "U" on it. Looked at CRG & they say black with an "O". I was thinking the "U" might be Universal Jack. Anybody know on a factory VE3 car?

duskblue 03-04-2021 08:08 PM

Jack turned out good Joe

More progress of the 1969 Camaro ss396. Radiator core support, a/c condenser, latch. support, horns & forward harness. Nothing tight. Have to wait for the fender to come home from striping. Should get them in a week or so. I know a restored bumper jack isn't too exciting :)

R68GTO 03-08-2021 11:10 PM

Looks great Joe. Some of us do get excited about details like bumper jacks!

firstgenaddict 03-09-2021 03:46 PM

Joe,
Do you have your original carpet?
The originals that I have dealt with had no binding on the edge between the two frnot seat mounts. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw...-no?authuser=0

X66 714 03-09-2021 05:06 PM

No I don't have the original carpet James. This is my 2nd restoration for this car. Back in 1981/82 when I did it I was just glad that there was something to replace it with. That's an easy cure. Thank you, Joe

NorCam 03-10-2021 02:12 PM

The blue car I cleaned up last year had its original carpets and was the same in that it had no binding between the seats. I still need to make the seat cuts in the new carpet for my yellow car.

https://i.ibb.co/Hnnh1nW/IMG-7137.jpg

Your car is coming along nicely Joe. Been watching yours as I have stalled with parts procurement and some little things I missed.

X66 714 03-10-2021 02:29 PM

I found a bunch of pictures of original carpets on CRG & they're all like you & James mentioned. I go looking to try to determine if it was a time period or plant veriation thing. There was another discusion about the blue door decal on CRG yesterday. My car falls about 3 days short of that sticker usage. Lots of research. I still didn't do everything correct, I'm sure....thank you, Joe

I got the fenders back yesterday (finally) & put emblems & wheels in. Now I just need one of my friends to come by so I can install them

duskblue 03-16-2021 11:42 PM

looks good Joe that strip is spot on.
