While I admire all of the beautiful cars owned by the members here, my driver quality Corvette was loved and cherished by me. |

Yeah, at this point I'm really just happy to see cars at car shows. I tend to not get too bothered by style or the details here at local shows. I like to see younger than average car owners. I seem to not be able to get enough 60's Chevy muscle but I really like oddball old cars not often seen.
|
Here’s one, Being put in the modified class, so you walk around the “ stock class” and there isn’t a single stock car.
There will be shows again, it’s March , there’s not much here until may june. And this is the motor city. What ever happened to a car being a classic before you put it in a show. If you pass a few as daily drivers on the way to a show, it just maybe should be taking up a spot where a classic Should be. This wasn’t a bash thread, it was just all in fun, a lot are tired of seeing goofy things at shows. I know I am. |

I did not like it at the time either. And that stuff sticks with a guy, he does not forget it. Having said that, to me, big difference what is going on in this thread. Guys just airing out what they don’t care for. Doesn’t mean we are vocalizing to owners how their ride doesn't measure up or conform to what we like. That’s rude. The other, just opinion kept to one’s self or, in this case, shared with buddies as an exercise. After all, that’s the flavor or essence of any car at a show, an expression of individual taste, opinion & artistic abilities. Most local shows I don’t care for 95% of the cars. Not my taste. Still doesn’t stop me from going, friendly talking to those owners and giving their car a once over. If anything, just to learn, make friends and gain a contact as a source for parts and to have a good time. I don’t care if they are old (owner or car), if they have money or not, if the project is finished or not, you get the point. Always an interesting story, if the owner opens up and talks? If I shared an opinion in this thread, and I did, it was with guys I figured shared similar opinions? As a disclaimer; If I did? I never intended to insult anyone reading this thread that does to their car any of the peeves I noted. As a free person in a free country, I enjoy, and defend others, saying what they want. But I was brought up with enough manners and sense not to intentionally disparage or insult fellow hobbyists. And when I do say something interpreted as hurtful, I apologize to that person and ask my Savior for forgiveness. |

So instead of what I don't like, here is what I do like. I like 14 and 15 inch wheels, wide in the rear and skinny in the front on muscle cars. A little rake without being too low. I like old school or original engines with carburetors and distributors. I love manual transmissions. I like clean, simple and uncluttered. I like spoilers if they are correct for the car, factory style paint and stripes.
|
I'm in a bashing mood so I'm not going to post any more on this thread. It was fun while it lasted. And as a farewell gift . . . . colored spark plug wires!

Lee. We’re on the same page. Lmao. Hate colored spark plug wires, hate those signs.
Here’s one everyone hates, shows on black top. And especially when the black top is in bad condition, so people kick chunks into cars. Like a show in Pontiac I went to. I know a guy, won’t mention his name, was at a car show at a Golf course in the Chicago area, good place for a show, lol His Bird got hit by a gold ball. Can you play a round at pebble beach when the show is there, lmao. |

And I hate that B Cool cap and Rad. It would be way better as a beer can. It would B cooler with a nice numbers correct factory radiator, in the correct black sheen, showing that you replaced the dumb one some guy put in back in the 70’s. Doing your homework on looking for the correct radiator the car left the factory with, getting an expensive nOS cap, I guess Let’s just start using the Jeggs catalog to do our cars I guess. For the people that don’t agree here, when you walk by that rare car at a show, and the owner cut cut a hole in the hood for a chrome Aircleaner, love it. Tell the guy good job. (Those lines are a whole diff disgust) |

For some reason, the wheels on the vette were looking good.

I am sure she is someone's daughter, maybe a wife and mother; but if you are going to dress like that, you are inviting abuse. It would be impolite not to accept.

It really bugs me to see a restoration with a no name battery in the car. If you have the money to restore a car, doesn't matter Ford, Mopar or GM, you should at least try to put in a matching battery.
|
It’s strange, some will not bother w/ battery’s, rad caps, plug wires, I’d say battery’s and rad caps are the most common.

I can’t tell you how many times I was asked, IS THAT THE BIG BLOC PONTIAC ENGINE?
I just say yes now. |
Don’t forget the O’Reilly chrome Holley fuel line with the fuel pressure gauge.
My biggest pet peeve are white letters that have never seen Westlys bleach white |
I get a kick out of people saying that in 1966 a Caprice couldn't be ordered like this.
|
I dont mind what other people do to their cars..its theirs...i dont like people trying to pass off something that isnt what it really is..
heres my pet peve..theres always one..he's walking around with a small audience, walking from car to car, and explaining whats wrong with the car, he's usually some type of addict..mostly alcohol, he uses his arms and hands, hes always squatting, and the drunker he gets the louder he gets...and his audience is just hanging on his every word, and he has no clue what he's really talking about...and he is looking at every person around the car, to see if anyone else will join his cult...i wanna strangle those dudes..really..just choke them out.. |
Wow, a Smokey And the Bandit car, my buddy used to have one just like this. Does it have the 455?
Yes, it has all that butt wipe. |

I respect everyone's right to express themselves through their vehicle and how it looks w/o criticism
But there is one thing I always speak up about. When someone pedals their bicycle up close around the cars @ a car show/cruise,be they young or old. I've seen so many door & fender incidents that in some cases,I've stopped going. You have to literally stand next to your car to protect it,and no one wants to do that all day. Many spend hundreds,if not thousands of hours & God knows how many dollars getting their cars to how they want them to look,so to me this is just a complete lack of respect for other people's property,as well as ignorance. |
I was at the Super Car Reunion a few years ago and a couple with their kids comes by looking at the cars. One of the kids opens the door and is getting in my car. I had to stop him because his parents didn't.
Several years earlier I was at another show and a friend of mine had his '38 Chevy sedan there. Some parents and their kids come by and the kids open the doors on this guy's car and get in one side and slide across the seat and out the door on the other side. Parents didn't stop them. I was at my home town show a few years ago and had my car parked at the bottom of a hill. Some kids were riding scooters down the hill straight at my car and another car. We ran them off once but they came back later. I had to get the police to make them stop. I've got 2 door dings and several scratches on my car that all came from car shows. |
What I like is when the parents get nasty with you when you tell their child to please not do whatever it is they are doing touching, opening the door, standing on running boards etc... You get the old "It ain't gonna hurt nothing"
LOL Rich |
A buddy took his Fauxbra ( fake Cobra) up on Woodward during Dreamcruise week, he must have been walking around, he came back to his car, a guy and his kid was eating ice cream in his car. Lmao. Too bad his kid didn’t burn his leg on the sidepipe.
I got him a DO NOT ENTER THE VEHICLE PLEASE sign, we used them on the turntables and platforms at the Auto Show. People go up on both to sit in the new cars on turntables at the shows, You just wonder about people. In the big city’s, the gangs come in and lock them selves in cars, turn the radio up full blast, the high end cars are always powered up. It’s unreal. |
I saw a family put 3 kids in an Isetta at a nice show for a picture. I couldnt believe it. Owner was no where around
|
Bill, that's why unfortunately you have to stay and "baby sit" your car if its nice and you worry about it. It's unfortunate we have to do that.. Some people just don't get it..

Car Shows...
There are certainly challenges with cars and the public...a recipe for disaster in too many cases. I recall a really interesting event at a local show...a car friend and I had gone to get some food, came back to find some guy kind of leaning/half sitting on the front fender of his car.
He was very composed...walked up to this jerker and said it was a nice car and asked if it was his...the guy said no...and with that my friend punched him and knocked him off the fender right on his ass. My friend offered to wait if the guy wanted to call security...but the moron chose not to and just limped off down the trail. Now we can talk about baby carriages next...never mind, that will take up too much space! -wilma  |
People that don't drive their cars. Trailer them to cars shows.
They are CARS. Drive the damn things. If I had a '71 Hemi Cuda convertible you would see me wheeling it around town on a regular basis. I can't wrap my head around someone that treats a car like the crown jewels. That would be like owning a 3 million dollar home and not living in it. |
When people decide to test urethane Bumpers or nose pieces to see how soft it is..with a fingernail no less.

Baggies on the pedals. Lmfao. I have a set of nOS floor mats I don’t put in, I get that, but baggies
The GTO natz was in the D few years back, guys had zip locks baggies on the pedals so their shoes wouldn’t get scuffs on the nos rubber brake so on. Plastic Car covers at shows, that blow off into other cars. Another stupid thing. |
