The engine compartment looks awesome! I am a fan of the velocity stacks

outlawperformance 02-13-2019 09:23 PM

You're rockin this build keep rolling with it!

SuperNovaSS 02-14-2019 03:54 AM

Man, you are fast! It’s looking great!

Jason

NorCam 02-15-2019 12:07 AM

Shifters...what a pain they can be?

Had shifters in and out all day! Cut the new patch panel to install what was supposed to fit but didn't. Welded in a new patch and tried something else...nope! Cut a new hole and tried something else...close. Stay tuned....

NorCam 02-15-2019 04:46 AM

OK...stuck with the tunnel work tonight and found the compromise that made me smile.

New shifter body, old custom mount which positioned the body where I wanted it, and I then took full advantage of a used handle I bought here on the forum a couple months ago. So, if this custom shifter isn't what one would call a Day 2 twist, then I don't know what is, cause it ain't stock. (lol)

This thing is soooo me! :3gears:

SuperNovaSS 02-15-2019 05:16 AM

That is amazing! I love it. There is no way that no console with a pistol grip shifter will not grab everyone’s eyes.

Awesome,

Jason

R68GTO 02-15-2019 10:07 AM

One of the cool things about Day 2 builds....you can throw in your own creativity - very cool idea Norcam!

Ryan1969Chevelle 02-15-2019 12:25 PM

Love the pistol grip!!!

The mechanic at the gas station I worked at as a kid had an orange 1967 Chevelle Malibu with SS hood, Cragars, little and huge meats, 327 350 hp, 4 speed, 4.11’s, and a pistol grip but I think his was a longer version.... (Not the crazy long one)

Way to go!!

Dave Rifkin 02-15-2019 02:52 PM

Man, and I thought I liked your Camaro..........nice work.

NorCam 02-15-2019 06:56 PM

Thanks Dave

Just finished up the shift linkages and it's working great. Next up is the driveshaft and loop.

Then it's ignition time. :burnout:

Dave Rifkin 02-15-2019 07:36 PM

Will we be seeing a "Charlie endorsed" test run down the driveway or something similar?

NorCam 02-15-2019 09:04 PM

While Charlie may have some good weather, we have -15 weather up here and snow. That's part of my driveway on the right, and those old slicks wouldn't get far in this stuff. :worship:

NorCam 02-16-2019 01:27 AM

Finished up a few things on the bottom side today. New emergency brake cable is installed and connected at the pedal, squared away all the shifter linkages and aligned everything, installed a new trans mount, cleaned up this D/S loop and reinstalled it, and installed the driveshaft. Next up is the wiring, the ignition system and all of the peripherals. Hoping to fire it up Tuesday as the weather is supposed to get better and this deep freeze might actually break. Found my Comp 692 Turbo mufflers today and will try and get those on next week as well.

Start up weather for Tuesday and Wednesday by the looks of things. May have time to do exhaust! :)

R68GTO 02-16-2019 01:51 PM

I'm confused as to why you think you need exhaust?:dunno::3gears:

I love how you think! trying to drive around with open headers and not get caught that's old school for sure!

big gear head 02-16-2019 04:17 PM

My mom is 74 years old and she loves the way my Camaro sounds with the headers open. She doesn't like it when I put the mufflers on. :)

As always................real nice work Graeme. I think you and Sam (Mockingbird) should open up a Day-2 Shop together. You could both quit your jobs! Attention to detail and work quality is unsurpassed with you two guys.

Bernhard 02-17-2019 03:54 AM

Sweet!

NorCam 02-17-2019 05:01 AM

Thanks guys...

Means a lot coming from so many of the guys I've been watching wrench on cars for years now. Day 2, slicks, wheels, intakes, carbs and ignitions. It all rocks and I truly like all flavors of it be it full or partial.

I was hoping to get lots done today but it's (flipping cold) snowing to beat the band here and today was a total write off. My neighbor came over around 2 PM to get lubricated, then we had to get our other neighbor to come pick us up and to go to town for pizza and yup...more lubrication. I'll get back on the wagon in the AM, but first I need to find the Advil for the morning. (lol) It was a fun night,

NorCam 02-17-2019 04:10 PM

10 AM Sunday, fed and had my 3 cups of caffeine. Still snowing and blowing and still pretty cold here. Managed to give myself a sore back from moving a bunch of snow yesterday but it's time to get back to work again. Doubt I'll have enough time to setup and play with the Rev Pol ignition so I think I'll leave that until later in the spring and install an MSD kit for the time being. I'll stash the controller in the glove box and should get it all wired in today. Then the seats can bolt back in while getting the engine bay buttoned up tomorrow. Looking to fire it Tuesday and test the clutch/trans with a quick roll out into the snow bowl (maybe a quick donut with the slicks on). From there it's time to reinstall the front clip and get it cleaned up to hit World of Wheels on Thursday. Going to drive it in with open headers which should open a few eyes at setup. Here's another view of that foreign Pistol Grip that my neighbors were diggin' on last night.

earntaz 02-17-2019 06:06 PM

"foreign Pistol Grip" LOL

Salvatore 02-17-2019 09:19 PM

Looking good Graeme. Does my heart good to know that you would even "think" to back that bad boy out in this weather for anything.

I say that as a couple years ago I tried chasing an old C/MP 67 Camaro called Checkmate that was campaigned by Paul Mercure around Michigan. The trail went cold on my hunt for the car but someone out of BC Canada must have looked harder than me as it turned up in Michigan and it was in the trailer today. It's now headed to BC.

Here's the car in question. More on this Nova when I take some pictures of it later on.

There is a couple pictures on Kil Kare Raceway Memories (on facebook) of one of the sister car to this car. Has a 31 on the window meaning they were the Division three champs in their class the previous year.

Salvatore 02-17-2019 11:55 PM

Those guys always ran good with both their cars back in the 70's early 80's.

NorCam 02-18-2019 04:32 AM

That thing running yet?

Yes...Mike Keener and Paul Mercure are legendary racers who campaigned a 67 and 68 Camaro under the name Checkmate. Prior to this era they ran an early Corvette, and later campaigned a Vega throughout the 70's. I believe they continued racing all the way up to 2006 when they finally took a break, and later returned to race a 2012 Copo which Mike Keener is still active with today.

I was just talking to a friend of mine Saturday about the Checkmate cars. Here is Mike Keener's '69 COPO that he raced in '72.

NorCam 02-19-2019 03:09 AM

That's so cool Freddie. Does that car belong to anyone here on the site now?

I'm on the home stretch here with the Nova. Cleaned up the rad support today, mounted the MSD under the dash, wired the ignition and totally re-wrapped the front lighting harness after cleaning up more splices that were found when a P/O moved the alternator to the driver side. Added new 10ga cables from end to end and wired the alternator back to the passenger side where it's supposed to be. I need to find a longer fan belt for this pulley configuration and thought I had a spare 7 blade fan for this car but must have used it?

If anyone has a spare 3947772 fan they like to part with I could use one to mount up an NOS fan clutch that I have sitting here (any date would be fine). I need to finish the alt circuit in the morning and then I'll terminate the starter and get the battery mounted into the car. Won't be long before the fenders are back on and the car is fired up and running. Hopefully tomorrow or Wed at the latest. Cutting it close here now and still need to check for fuel leaks with all these new lines.:naughty:

Looking good Graeme! Sometimes we do our best work under the pressure of a deadline!

Salvatore 02-20-2019 01:53 AM

I bet L78 Fred has a few 772 fans and clutches he could help you with.

NorCam 02-20-2019 05:24 AM

Lot's of distractions today as I had to pull some snow off the roof of the house and dig my trailer out of the snow. We then finished up all the wiring that was left to complete on the car, and tightened down all the fuel lines. I'll likely fire it tomorrow and will then assemble the front clip to finish it off. Tonight I buttoned up the interior and got the seats back in it after finishing off the lighting circuits for the gauges, tack and radio. I leave you with a few shots of the interior with more to come on Thursday as I roll it into the show.

Looking real good!

A couple quick donuts in the snow, assuming a proper lack of sand and salt, would be quite the proper way to load this awesome car in the trailer! :3gears:

NorCam 02-20-2019 05:31 PM

Snowing here again today with another inch or two of fresh fluff. Should be ready to fire the car after it warms up a touch this afternoon. I'll grab a video when there's time.

NorCam 02-21-2019 05:43 AM

Didn't warm up too much today. In fact it snowed all day and highways are a total white out here with blowing snow. Another 6" or more on the ground tonight after a foot fell on the weekend. Needless to say I didn't fire the car today and if I even haul it tomorrow, I'll be using the winch as it's real crappy out. It's going to drop over the next day or so with -17 F forecast for Sunday night after the show.

In any case, buttoned up most of the front end today and installed the dust shields on the inner fenders earlier tonight. I still need to finish installing the cowl vent panel, the grill, park lights, front bumper, rocker moldings and fill the car with anti-freeze if it's going anywhere. I can't believe this crap we're getting for weather the past three weeks straight. Here's a couple new pics which gives me a little hope that it will be finished tomorrow. Back at it after 6 hours of rest. Nothing like a little pressure to get things done.

I believe Mike Keener purchased that car from Ed Stinn Chevrolet here in Cleveland, OH. All Ed Stinn Ordered COPOs had vinyl tops. I do not know if Mike purchased it from Ed Stinn directly or if his local dealer did a dealer trade of cars to obtain it. Don.
