Good thoughts on that. No sprinklers in there, but there is water access all around and I will have fire extinguishers by the doors. Yes, that’s not as effective as a fire sprinkler system, but at least if something is noticed and caught nobody’s scrambling to get a hose or anything.

Man, that is so tragic. I feel so bad for your friends and their loss. What a shame.
Great idea with the smoke detectors and alarm in the house. Who knows? Today, they might even make an app fir that!! Cheers Dave |
While your doing it, go ahead and get some cameras set up too. Then you can look on your phone and see whats happening. We have 3 different places wired and it uses a dvr that records when motion sets it off. Works good, I can look and see if anyone is working while on vacation or how deep the snow is! Ours are Lorex brand. I had a young tech guy set them up so not sure how difficult. Some of ours are wireless
|
I used the nest brand. Really good stuff
|
Great idea too, Bill. We were planning on that, it just slipped my mind with everything else that's on it! :scholar:
Back at it today! Soooooo long shoulders! Cheers Dave |

We're at the two month point on the barn build and I'm happy to report that yesterday was monumental day! The last board went in yesterday! Well, should I say the last plank. There's still all the cedar trim and staining to do, but still, this was prestigigeous day in all things barny.
So, what's one to do when that moment arises that the last board gets nailed in? Simple! Have the wife snap the photo for prosperity purposes, strike a few poses, dance, then fall off the scaffolding! :rolleyes2: I'm just kidding..... I can't dance:no::biggthumpup:. I started laying the tile down in the tack room too. I'll post final photos after the trim and staining is done and then I guess that'll be it for this project. Then it's onto the shops shop I can start into the cars!! More to come, one more time! Cheers:beers: Dave |
Pictures look great! But why are you ending in the middle of a ceiling/floor? You should be ending at a wall, not in the center :)
|
Yes, you'd think that, Kevin. But the width of the boards and the distance between angles makes a half piece, or a 3/4 piece, necessary to make up the gap. I thought it better to have that on ffor ceiling so it's not overly noticeable versus lower on the wall/ ceiling junction.
Plus, it's waaaaaaaay easier to deal with that on the scaffolding rather than lower which is closer to the ground! :hmmm::rolleyes2: Cheers Dave |
Beautiful Dave :)
You should be very proud. Dan |
Thanks, Danno! I appreciate the compliments and if Chicago were closer to Texas, your daughter could ride with Kelly in the new arena that's coming next week! :cool2:
And we could be buried in the shops not really doing much of anything since I'm planning on having a beer tap in there somewhere! Cheers Dave |
Looks amazing, great job.
|
Wow, that looks great! I'm looking forward to see what you have planned for the shop.
|
Thanks guys! I appreciate the compliments. I’ll post final photos later this month and this will end the barn build!
As far as the shops go, I won’t be going this crazy, that’s for sure. I’ve got the two buildings to do, but the big building is I’ll focus on first. My idea in there is More of the industrial look, so there’s going to be exposed a/c ducts, large beams, etc. Although the walls will be finished. I’m thinking one bay will be a spray booth and parts mezzanine on top like I had before. But I’m still thinking of what I want layout wise. Last update to come! Cheers Dave |

I just finished my shop and have yet to decide love to hear your ideas. Thank you |
We have 2 buildings that are finished inside. The one is a 30x45 that has the same metal siding as the outside. It is insulated and metal on walls and ceilings. Looks nice and no maintenance. The other building is 56x75. Morton did it and it has a sheet of osb and then metal above that and ceiling. All insulated. I think morton does farm shops like that in case you damage the wall its easier to replace and the wood helps with the noise level. We painted the osb once about 10 years ago and it still looks good. Doesnt wipe down as nice as the metal.

Is smart panel a perforated metal?

I think when our big shop was done they had perforated metal panels to break up the noise. only bad thing with T1-11 its not fun painting those grooves!
|
Wow, that place is really dialed in!!
Cant wait to see how you progress on the shop. I'll be taking notes for sure  |

Thanks guys! I appreciate the compliments! Here's a shot of the detail work I'm finishing up. In the home stretch! Fortunately, I bought stock in Weyerhaeuser right before I bought all my cedar since I knew it would inflate the share price! :bs::naughty:
Cheers:beers: Dave |
If I brought my own cot, could I live in your beautiful (horsey) abode? :naughty:
|
Anytime, Samminator! But, there may be a change to the barn due to Woj's suggestion: Converting it to a kick-butt German style Haufbrau House decore'd, aviation themed, Micro-Brewery!
I think I'll call it, "Super Dave's Classic Car Hangar and Bierhaus":hmmm: That'll work! Cheers:beers: Dave |
Well Done, Congrats.
|
That is beautiful.......
|
I am in awe..... Yours is bigger buddy.
I am going to get a restoration tent to work in :-) Love the MCACN T Shirt, I didn’t even buy one this year. (I am making a list this time) PS: I chat with a Hawaii-now-Texas Oldsmobile guy pretty often, i’ll send an Aloha/Howdy note so you guys can meet. (I want him to stop by and take pictures of the 31 off camera workers :-)) Ryan W31 |
Hay! Nice work Dave, dont forget to lock up after the horse is gone!
|
Well done. What ac system did u go with?
|
that's beautiful. being a general contractor for almost 40 years, I got to ask, how much was your finish out bill? lol I know you probably don't want to know considering it could be a nice big block camaro sitting there inside the plain building instead.
|
Great work Dave!! Looks great..
You are a machine!! LOL Rich |
Awesome structure...enjoy and fill it with both kinds of horses if you know what I mean!
|
That is beautiful Dave, good job! It had been kind of quiet and I figured the next pictures would have the cuda in there finished!
|
That place is too nice for horses. Can I live there? I've been called a certain part of a horse before, so I think I'm qualified. :D
