Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"
Thanks for the suggestion on the jack paint. Great information! I'll be getting into that next week.
In continuing on the continuation of wetsanding, I'm done and the car is buffed out. Good news? No compound residue anywhere. Bad news? While painting, I bumped into the workbench which, not realizing it, awakened the Giant Mothra who then landed on my fender. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-mothra_9.jpg Swooping down like a terradactyl on an unsuspecting cave dude. I was able to get most of it out, but I'm not happy. I'm debating what to do and the first thing will be a magnifying glass, dental pick, and the cat like steadiness that I inherited from my Hungarian heritage. What that has to do with anything, I don't really know. But I make a darn good Chicken Paprikash! So, I'll try and get it out that way then dab on some clear. My second option is to divert attention to it at all costs. If I see someone looking in that direction I'll scream out something to distract them and redirect their gaze. I can see it now..."Wow Dave. Nice paint! Engine bay looks great. Let me walk around here and..." "Booobs!" [Me yelling and pointing off into the distance at nothing]. And after they are distracted, bring them back down to reality and say, "Hey, let me show you the door handle! It's chrome and shiney! OoooOOOoo shiney shiney!!" But seriously, If it comes down to it, I'll just reshoot the whole car. Should be pretty simple at this point! Here's the door and fender polished up! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...110_060839.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...110_060921.jpg If you remember back a few pages, I found this parts tag in the driver's quarter window. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-img_5302.jpg I made a replica of it and hung it back in the same area I found it so some other moron 47yrs later will find it when they restore the car again. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...110_060445.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...028_125838.jpg I also made copies of the Broadcast sheet and hung it in the window like they did back in the day. I think further down the line the sheet was hung on the front of the car by the grille. I trying to add some realism to the car during this process, so I'm also thinking of putting on a set of coveralls, add a few tattoos, then right as the car is about to meet up with the engine at a critical moment, yell out, "breeeak time!" Stay tuned for upcoming episodes of "This old Bee" where you'll hear such famous quotes as, "Why do I have so many bolts left over? " and "Huh. These freakin' cars, stupid hobby, lousy country club and their stupid rules! Oh, express checkout, huh? Why is my lane slower than the others? BAH!!!" Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"
TAZ, I'm using the 3M Perfect-It system. It's a 4 pad, 3 compound kit. Works really well. I had tried Meguiar's system as well starting with their heavy cut compound, and that worked well too. But hands down the 3M is the best.
Thanks for the compliments! No, it's not perfect and will no way hold a candle next to a Mikey special, but I'm pretty proud of it! Cheers Dave |

I was blasting the forward k-member bracket and found another factory marking. This "2" is also on the survivor A12 Bee I'm using a reference for my restoration as well. I penned in where the marking is below. It was easier to see in person and with is wiped with solvent. Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"
I added the grille and radiator blackout and starting to add a few parts here and there. It gets kind of sloppy with slight overspray on the upper support and spotty coverage behind bolts based on the spray pattern. I looked at several survivor cars to replicate the psttern. I'm refinishing the gas tank and waiting on a few more parts to come in so i can get the tank and lines installed. After that, it comes off the twirler for the last time!!!

Re: "The Beater Bee" becomes "The Better Bee"
Thanks Bill! I think I went to a carshow last weekend....all I remember is I blinked and next thing I know I was back home! That weekend just goes by WAAAY too fast. It was nice meeting a bunch of faces from the forum. I think next year I'm going to set up a "Meet the Dork" booth so I can just sit in one place and meet everyone. Just not enough time.
So, moving on, it's nice to have some parts prerestored so they can just go on immediately right after paint! The past few days I've been busy, and would have been more busy but parts are on backorder. Funny...they said "in stock" when I clicked the button! So a quick call to the big retailer and here's how it went down: Retailer: "Hello, Day 2, can I help you?" Me: "Um, yeah, I see that a bunch of my parts I ordered that said they were in stock are actually on backorder..." Retailer: "Yeah, what's the problem?" Me: "The probelm is many things, but right now, when will I expect to see my body plug kit?" Retailer: "Let's see..(keyboard typing sound)...hmm...please hold...[click] - - - sound of "love hurts" by Nazareth - - - Retailer: "Sir?" Me: "Yes?" Retailer; "Please hold..." - - - "theeyyyre nooottttt fooolin' meee....I knoww it isnt' true.....I know it isn't true..." - - - Retailer: "OK sir, It says you'll see them in Nevuary..." Me: "Nevuary....when's that?" Retailer: "Right after (inaudible static sound)...Thank you for using Day 2!" {click} So, in the meatime while I wait for parts to show up, here's some handiwork to get me by until Nevuary shows up https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn2107.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn2101.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn2112.jpg Gastank cleaned up, all the lines installed and shocks hung in place. I detailed up the filler neck with a mottled finish on neck, along with the red painted band on the part that seats in the tank seal. I don't know if that's a sealer they used from the factory or something else, but its red. And I had red laying around, so red went on it! Also, the filler opening is dipped in black epoxy. I used the survior Bee (5600 mile car) as a reference on this https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn2098.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn2097.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn2096.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn2114.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn2105.jpg A few more with the wiper linkage, heater core, and peals installed. Also, engine bay with the master cylinder, lines, and a few other odds and ends installed. I'm going to have to order a new MC lid from Frank (you know...you could lower that price on that Frank...I'm just sayin' ) and a few, ok, a LOT, of other parts from him shortly. Something cool...my Bee has about 53K miles on it. As a result, the pedal pads are in really great shape! So I thought I'd leave them on so a little piece of Gary could be with me everytime I climb behind the wheel! Waiting on the emergency brake cables to come in so I can finish up the undercarriage and get this thing off the twirler!!! Ha! Thanks Darrell. Ya know, I had a 67 GTO way back when and would love another. But I think I'd want a 65 or a 69/70 Judge this time around. I think if a cool project GTO came around I'd jump on it. Three threads at once?

H-Pipe installed and I'm just about ready to wheel this whole assembly into place! Meanwhile, started working on the window regulators. Pics to follow! Cheers |

Removing the engine cradle for the last time! So what's one to do on a day like this after such a momentous occasion? Well, if the song "Vogue" or "Stayin' Alive" has taught me anything, it's strike a pose and strut! Many don't know this, but I was a professional bodybuilder at 18 growing up in NJ. So, in props to my old skool muskle shows, it's only natural to make the crowds cheer!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn2177.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn2178.jpg Oh yeah, they went nuts when I hit these poses!!!! Don't let the size of those guns fool you!!!! I rocked it back in the day! Fortunately I got out of bodybuilding about a week after I got into it, since the girl I was going for met some dork at the shore that year, but still! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn2185.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn2187.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn2181.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn2174.jpg What's one to do after a day like this? Simple....kick back and enjoy the progress! And just to appease Mikey, I had to use my GM cup!
