Ryan what are the plans for this beauty. A complete restoration or get it running and drive it. The body looks really nice from what I could see in the pics.

Hi Mike:-) In General: Step #1: Nothing but investigation, documentation, research, and purchasing of needed items, till after MCACN, so they let me bring her to the BF/HG Display. Step #2: Clean, polish, scrub, service, repair, reinstall every item that came with the car that I can still use, install new parts purchased during Step #1 such as carpet, headliner, seat covers, rebuild the mechanicals, get it certified, and drive it as is. Step #3: Undetermined.....I have a feeling it will be so much fun with crappy paint I may want to have spot repairs done and enjoy the heck out of it. Step #4: Drive it to Chevelle, (park out behind the porta-potties) and Oldsmobile shows all over the place!!! (No Truck, No Trailer, she will get wet, she will be ok:-) Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Sounds like a great plan bud I'll be watching the progress until mcacn!

You`re lucky does meat hooks didn`t go through your gas tank.....tow driver was young....young usually means inexperienced. You NEVER should use them hooks near a gas tank.
Double check your gas tank.....is there a dent in your tank now. Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Really cool find, like your plan Ryan, make it safe and drive the wheels off. Or maybe burn them off. . I'd love to have a $15,000 paint job to, but I have to much fun driving it, like the hour drive to NOCC. Will be watching the progress, hope it warms up soon, to cold to stare at it in -20 for you. Good luck, Steve. Also like RAM ROD RYAN very cool.

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Dan is right about those hooks....sure be a shame to damage that original tank. Ryan, have you figured out just what a good find you have there buddy?

Here are a few on the cowl, I think the spot of missing paint inside the area where the hood grills should be was remnants of the black hood stripes:-)

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Can anyone identify the extra engine in the car? Al was told that it has a cam in it, and that it was an Oldsmobile:-)

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Looks like the balancer's too thin to be W31 but considering how all's been working out for you so far, it really wouldn't have been that surprising. Still tough to read the stamped pad #'s from here, please note & relay them...is the 2'nd # a 9? Exact applications aren't stamped like Chevy engine suffixes but the stamping there is the vehicle info and should be 9 digits beginning w/ a 3 for Olds division followed by year digit then plant digit ending w/ the sequential six of the original vehicle Vin. Whatever the engine is, again you're lucky being an Olds that the crank's drilled for a pilot bushing so hopefully you can get it fired up and car moving around under its own steam to use while rebuilding the W31 engine. Did you check the trans again and are there any more stamped #'s? ~ Pete |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The stamp as best I can read it is:
3 = Oldsmobile 9 = 1969 1 = Oshawa I assume 113288 = vin of the car it came out of The block has a huge cst number on the front 395558. 2 = 1968 - 1976 350 Olds engine Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
#5 heads are 1968-1969 all small block. Original W31 units will have bigger valves.
|
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The original W31 5 heads are in the trunk
The 5 heads on the extra engine I assume are the normal valve size Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Spent half the day cleaning the workshop in the house and taking things to the dump so I could take items from the garage to the WS to make more room:-) we also put the dolleys together that my son won at NOCC (I think two years ago) THANKS NOCC!!! I also put the car on the dolleys and pushed it over to the wall so we can continue to clear out more items from the garage. I even washed and vacuumed the wife's car so she wouldn't feel jealous:-)
This was a father and son day, although it was not as glamorous as hoped...step by step young Jedi!! This car is great motivation!! Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The first two pictures are from the MTO Ministry of Transportation, they show the 1969-1972 plates without the sticker, then the 1973 plate got the sticker and no longer had to be replaced every year.
The next two pictures are of the 1973 plates on my car with the last sticker purchased in 1976. I have Al's insurance slip but it is for 1975, so somewhere in there was her last drive:-( Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...219_150959.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...219_151007.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...215_190953.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...215_191011.jpg |
