Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Ah yes, the 70 Chevelle with "450 H/P" carved into the rear bumper pad! Saw it at a local car show in my area back in the early 80's.

By chance do you remember if your dad sold it to a guy in Philly. Great pics.... |
Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
That's the same car. I sold my 70 Ram air IV judge with 32,000 original miles to buy that car. It was 1984.At the time it the most money I ever spent on a car. $8000.I remember all my friends thought I was crazy for buying that car. I missed my judge almost immediately but my friend I sold it to wouldn't part with it. I drove the Z16 around for the next year but eventually sold it to the guy who still has it today.

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Don, there will be a Z16 showcase display at MCACN this year. If would be appreciated if you could contact the owner and see if he's interested.

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
The frame and drive train is in one place and the body is still outside at a undisclosed yard. I don't know what will happen to it.

I'll have to bring pictures I took of it when I drove it around the hood (graffiti and all). Usually blows people's minds. I love it when I see one all restored perfect and I tell them I used to have one I drove sideways every chance. They always say with an attitude. " one of these???, You just think you had one of these". Like I'm a stooge. |
Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Driving it sideways? You probably did the car a favor and installed a posi!
|
Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
That car had a 456 posi in it. Had a 427 in it too. Did not have the original drive train. Aluminum heads were in the trunk when I bought it.

my brother's 1969 Van Nuys built SS396 Camaro the day he bought it in 1977.

Z16s are cool - but not worth swapping a IV Judge for... |

What color is that?

Appears to be A. Gold - look at the leading edge of the top photo's front fender.

The color is Autumn Gold.

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Well, speaking of gold, here's a picture of my code 53, light gold metallic '74 Z28 when it was about 1 month old. It was winter of 1973, December sometime. I had tracked down the original owner shortly after I bought it (I'm the 3rd owner). We got together a few times and he had a few pictures that he let me make copies of. Yes, that is snow in the picture, it's in Rochester, NY. He also had 2 of the original wheels and a still in the box, NOS stripe kit which I quickly made a deal on. Unfortunately no paperwork. That got lost with the 2nd owner. It's got just over 35,000 miles on it now.

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Mark, Any more recent pics of your 74 Z? Would love to see how it looks now.
Maybe post some up in the Member's Ride section or sneak one in here. I really like the 74-only stripes, and wish they did those for a couple more years. |

Maybe I'll put something together and post it in the members section as you suggested. No more stripes though. The stripes had been removed by the original owner back in the late 70's. |

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
My uncle in 1970 with his brand new (with day-two stuff already added) LS6, M40. Passed away in 2013. He and his brother were body builders back in the day when such a thing was barely a hobby. Most of the pictures are more about him than the car. Notice the upside down SS grille emblem, and lack of "Chevelle" and Stainless grille trim. We think he must have had an early accident, but he didn't remember. This car was unofficially known in the Framingham, Marlboro, MA. area as "The Wild Mouse". Would love to find it.https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...le_ss454_c.jpg

he was a BIG dude without the drugs they use today.

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Cool photos. An early LS6 to boot and complete with pad locked lanyard cables. Common in the day. I know as I did the same thing.
|
Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
I don't even have his VIN. Notice the right-side-biased TCS relay mounting position suggests it is a Baltimore car. Not to mention the plastic inner fenders.

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Yeah, here's his brother (still kicking) back in 1968 getting ready for Korea. This is his '65 'Stang. I can't believe I'm 20 years older than they are in these pics. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-imq421_2.jpg

Re: Vintage pics of muscle cars-post yours up here!!
Another one. Easter Sunday 1969. Installing a rear speaker. The 442 was before the LS6. Youngest brother had the 1968 GTO. Oldest was in Korea. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics..._april_6_b.jpg
