Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Got the NCRS papers today on this black 69 Chevelle SS396 Post sedan, and it was originally shipped to McCormick Motors in Nappanee, IN
They are still in business near South Bend, IN I called them just to possibly see if they had any old paperwork, but haven't heard back yet. No progress on the restoration to report. |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Very cool to get another piece of the history on that significant car.
Are you still gathering parts for the resto? Ryan |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I remember seeing this car on craigslist. Man if I knew what it really was and had the funds to restore this car back to how it should be I would have jumped all over it. Great score and I cant wait to see the finished product. I remember seeing this car a lot be cant pin point where exactly.

It was heavily street raced around Detroit, and also saw it's fair share of time at the local dragstrip. |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
The body rebuild process has begun.
I have a very talented bodyman that is doing the work in my shop, as I couldn't do this on my own. Progress will be a bit slow as he can only come here on Saturdays, but he is a very persistent, so gets quite a bit done when he's here. First step, now that the old floor is completely removed, is to rebuild where the rocker meets the floor and the hinge jam as well as the body mount boxes. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscf7006.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscf7003.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscf7011.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscf7013.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscf7015.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscf7010.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscf7017.jpg |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Good plan, by having the work done "on site" as the work progresses you can be part of all the decisions/compromises/no compromises.
Did you find a dash? Keep us Posted!!! Exciting. Ryan |

is that frame useable rick? </div></div> Yes, the original frame is useable, but will need a new piece welded in where someone cut a chunk out for crossmember removal, and also need to cut off the added-on ladder bar adjustable mount. Rest of it looks surprisingly good, with no rot out around the body bushing areas. Body will be coming off the frame next week, when we put the floor in. Ryan, yes I found a good plastic dash housing, and also have the metal section of dash at the windshield area, where it meets the cowl panel. |

Rick,
Question? Will you keep and preserve the undercoated (Ziebart) plugs or weld them up? Dan |

Man...I remember when that car was for sale - not too far from our house either. Glad you got it, Rick, I think I would have been overwhelmed by the scope of that project.
Did you ever get any information from the selling dealer? |

Did you ever get any information from the selling dealer? </div></div> Tony, The original salesman, who later became the owner of the dealership, said he thought he had some memorabilia from the era for his dealership (McCormick Motors), but I never could get him to follow through. I'll have to call and E-mail him again to see if he will respond. |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Took the body off the frame yesterday and did a final fit of the firewall section with toe-boards, then welded that long seam, as well as fixing several extra holes from aftermarket gauges and accessories.
