Re: Tone Blue
Chris, I would love to spray Patinamobile, but IF I were to take on any work, I'd have to do the Plowman's daughters's car first. He had mentioned it already. I need to take some peoples advice and liquidate the garage! If I had a place to put Tone Blue, I'd do some work on your cars. Kinda stuck at this point? You should see how packed the 30x40 is! All my fault.
On a sidenote, Bruce, at this point, I hope I get a permanant layoff so I can head right back to school and finish my degree! That is my best option! |
Re: Tone Blue
Hi Jed, I'm new here @ SYC. I just finished looking through you post. Very nice job! That color combo is awesome. Keep up the good work. Jim

Re: Tone Blue
Welcome Jim! And thankyou very much! I could write a book about how I was introduced to this site, but that would be a long one. I have always loved cars and enjoyed others dreams. So, in turn, I am just sharing a dream with the rest on this site. My cars may not be rare, but its fun to share pictures and knowledge with the many men and women on this site. I have met a lot of great people on here.
This car is approaching two years of work on a limited budget. I'm getting anxious! Have a few setbacks, but I will get it done. Jed |

Re: Tone Blue
Update. Been busy restoring wheels, searching for the right parts and learning what works and doesn't work. Found out that I need to have my heads checked out for the motor. Seems that one valve is a bit lower than all the others. I will be calling Pete Suriano for that one. So many guys in my area have recomended him. Drag racing and dirt track alike!
Most of the hard work is done and now begins the expensive part! Stay tuned! |
Re: Tone Blue
I think Pete will tell you that it ain't so easy fitting those fuelie heads on a 396. What is next Hurst Auto-Stick on the floor?

Re: Tone Blue

Re: Tone Blue
Passenger side inner fender. I used stainless steel mechanics wire to reproduce the staples. The driver's side was done the same way.

Re: Tone Blue
Heater blower installed with undercoating around the motor. That is the factory paint on the motor as well.

Re: Tone Blue
This is a poor shot, but I wanted to show the "factory" sealant on top of the blower motor cover. "BlackJack roof cement"

Looking very nice! Of course you will have to revise your redline on that Pontiac hood tach! |
Re: Tone Blue
Looking very good Jed, Brings back memories to the 68 I tore apart to fix up my SS in 1989. It was a tough decision, I remember it well. But back in the day we didn't have the panels we do today. It had the same color combination as what you chose. I now regret doing it but there are many of us who have regrets in what we did. I don't even have a picture of it. I even "donated" all the left over parts to NNN after I took what was needed for the SS.

Re: Tone Blue
Reading's not that far away. I'll have to come on up to check it out sometime. I'll be in Adamstown Monday night to buy my wife a car. (tomorrow) Jim
|
Re: Tone Blue
Jim, I welcome anyone to stop by and check it out. I have put a lot of time and effort into this car and would love to share it with anyone interested in it. It's far from my idea of perfect, but I love to do it. I'm still "green" and learn everyday. It's 3/4's of they way done and I'm itching to get it out!
Shoot me a message and I'd be more than happy to show you my car. Jed |
Re: Tone Blue
Motor has been fired up tonight for the first time. Ran like a top on initial start up! Not bad for a 40+ yr old Mallory dizzy and coil. I believe this motor will run nicely.

Re: Tone Blue
That is a 40+ old Rev Pol dizzy.

Re: Tone Blue
Yes Paul. 40+ yr old dizzy. It is a vacuum advance dual point dizzy to boot. So far, everything works good!

Re: Tone Blue

Re: Tone Blue
Just an update. Been taking the time to get the little details right with the car. Had some time to play with some distributor tuning and think that I have it curved in. Since I can do that now. Thanks to bergy and Plowman. I decided to drop my Rev Pol into the car and use the switch and coil. The front end should be buttoned up shortly. Can't wait until the Nova actually has a grill again.
I know I need to get some pictures up, so please bear with me. Jed |

Re: Tone Blue
Sam, I think I have figured out what it does? The switch is there to give the coil a full 12 volts. The way that its wired into the ignition circuit would indicate that with the switch in the street position, voltage steps down through the resistor and in the strip position, it bypasses the resistor and goes straight to the coil. Hence the warnings of only having it in the strip position while at the races.
I have realized mounting the coil to the firewall isn't as easy due to the automatic dipstick. That dipstick took my sweet spot!!! I wasn't thinking with my dipstick! |
Re: Tone Blue
Good stuff Jed, that makes sense. Post some pix once you install that bad-boy system!
