Just think about what can happen when you fall in love with a cute dimple and end up marrying the whole girl.

Re: auction 'buy backs'

I have a few comments about this thread (sorry for the lengthy dialog):

I have dealt with several of the "top" auction companies. I can't say I have ever really been happy with the experience. One example was an Austin Healey that the auction company called me about at 8:00 am day of the auction saying that had a buyer. Of course for less than my reserve and they would not reduce their fees. So I said no thanks let it run. When the car hit the block and reached their offering price the car was off the block and on to the next car even with active bidding!!! What really got me was the car up before mine they spent 15 minutes to get another $2,000. Then to add insult to injury when I went to pickup the car (1:00am) they offered to push it to the truck. But I said I drove it in I'll drive it to the truck. Well when I got in it I had no clutch pedal pressure. As I got out one of the union workers of the Waldorf hotel, where the event was held, quietly told me to make sure I got a document stating that there may be hidden damage. After 2 hours of chasing people I finally got my signed document. When I got he car home and looked underneath with a light I almost passed out! Apparently the car was put up a 1/2 a flight of stairs into another room with 3 other cars. As mine came down if fell off the ramps sliding. It would have been nice for someone from the auction house to have told me. With a $12,000 estimate for damages I fought for 6 months to end up with $7,000. My favorite part was being told that they had never had an insurance claim or damage to a car before!!!! They also wanted to take my car to their restoration shop in Canada that was the "best in the world". I passed on that idea of letting them take the car out of the country!!!

In regards to "Then again there are 20 year old girls sitting on old guys laps"

I was in Las Vegas with a friend at the crap tables and here comes a guy in his 80s with at gorgeous at best 20 year-old blond, with the tightest, skimpiest dress I have ever seen, on his arm and my friend says out loud "isn't it nice to see a grandfather out with his granddaughter" the place went hysterical. But I bet the old man got the last laugh!!!!

One more note on this - I remember back in the late eighties 2 collector car dealers from Long Island (one located in Freeport was later closed down by the Police for other actions) were running a scam at the Atlantic City auction. They would each bring a car worth say $20k and bid and buy each others cars for say $40k.
Everyone went home with a $40K car to put on their showroom floors - and we all know how everyone's looking for a bargain......
