I would just do whatever Chris White feels is the right thing to do.

If it were my car I definitely wouldn't and if I were buying it I would want it the way it is.What's done is done. It's like a broken bone, It's never the same. Factory paint is the way to go. By the time you sand the stripes and prime you'll be painting the hole panel. Then if the black is too blue or too brown you'll end up blending the tops of the fenders and quarters. Then you'll end up with blends on the tops of the quarters by the window always needing to be buffed from the blend appearing after time. Once you start you can't go back. Just my experience from painting cars for almost 50 years.

----L72,,,Normally I would absolutely agree with you, but Chris is no ordinary painter. He is the best of the best. He would, of course, completely paint the whole hood and decklid, but I'll bet he wouldn't have to blend anything.
----I have a 67 Corvette restored by the Nabors Brothers in white lacquer, which is also very hard to match and it's a gorgeous paint job. I had to get a different 427 hood because of oil contamination thru the hood. I have a local expert who has had winners at pebble beach and he absolutely hit the button on the hood with no blending. It can be done!......Bill S |

I agree with Mikes post #32. It just makes a whole lot of sense

Leave as is Charlie, for all the reasons above, the next owner will do as he wishes.
Great car , wow |
It's the history of the car. Leave them and let the next owner wrestle with that decision. Pure black looks great, but these aren't bad. There's been worse things done to cars by dealers back in the day.

I like stripes in general, but Chevelles without the stripes have a different look, like as if I have to tilt my head and look again. Plus, I think the lack of stripes makes the car look stockier, like some guy who's short but built like a tank. It actually may be more attractive that way.
A rarity would be a Cowl Induction car without stripes. |
