Re: Hurricane Sandy
I didn't think we would get it as bad as we did here in Ohio but we did!! 60-70 MPH wind gusts & lots of rain.. Lost power here for almost 24 hrs. Thank God for generators!! I have a nice full house system that runs off natural gas.. That puppy fired right up as soon as the power went out!! I am just happy it kept the sump pumps running!! My neighbors all had flooded basements because their back up sump pumps quit...
I know what Ohio experienced was SMALL POTATOES compared to you guys on the east coast!! My thoughts and prayers are with you all!! Rich |
Re: Hurricane Sandy

Re: Hurricane Sandy
No power, internet, or phones. Got wood...er lots of fallen trees, that is. Using parking lot wifi at the moment. Our old generator is barely holding up. It crapped out this morning and i had to rewire it. Its working again (fingers crossed). Schools closed til next week. Wife and kids leaving for Gramma's house in Rochester, tomorrow. No plans for getting power restored for probably a week due to all the old growth trees that took down miles of power lines in a domino effect.
Its like the Walking Dead around here. Lines of unshaven people (some of them men) holding gas cans, and swaying up and back like zombies, waiting for their chance to get fuel. Abandoned cars lining the streets near these gas stations. Im glad I bought the 50 pound bags of dog and cat food last week. They are well fed but I think the three dogs and three cats are conspiring behind our backs. I think they are planning a revolution and this hurricane stuff was just a cover story. Wait, they heard me....gotta go. Jabba the Cat just looked at me funny...... |

Re: Hurricane Sandy
Guys,
The news reports sure look bad for the Jersey shore area. As Rich mentioned, we got hammered here in Ohio, but no Ocean to really screw with us. Just a ton of down trees and power outages. Hoping for the best for you guys on the Coast. Phil Woj. |
Re: Hurricane Sandy
Here in Toronto Canada, we got a little taste of the disaster below us. Broken trees, some power loss and small amounts of flooding.
One lady walking at a Staples store parking lot got hit in the head with the Staples sign swinging right off because of the strong winds, she died instantly. I hope for all the best below us for a speedy and safe recovery |
Re: Hurricane Sandy
The shore has been destroyed. Seaside seems to have gotten the worst of it though. In some areas of Ocean City, there is over a foot of sand on the streets and IN people's homes. Living in South Jersey and seeing the news out of Philadelphia that covers much of the shore region, it's absolutely devastating to look at. I was just down in Ocean City, NJ last weekend too.
In my little corner of Gloucester County in South Jersey, we seem to have been spared. The eye passed right over us. I never lost power, had any flooding or downed trees. The rain wasn't as much as expected either at around 3". The wind was steady but didn't really start cranking until after the eye passed. |
Re: Hurricane Sandy
New Jersey is a huge mess!! Wake up and smell the coffee!!
Yep, we are the lucky ones!! The power in on here too. Haven't had any news source till now. I was finally able to get to my fathers house, only because I got a full tank of diesel fuel in my truck, before the hurricane. I took him a generator and all the gas I scrape up. I syphoned gas from my Chevelle and El Camino. The destruction here is New Jersey is our Catrina. Anyone who has seen the news should know whats going on here. We are totally out of gas, and the food supply is soon to follow. There's no traffic lights in most of NJ, and the gas lines are in some cases, miles long. I was driving down the Garden State Parkway today, and the rest/fuel stops, had lines over 3 miles long. Where are the feds??? That idiot president was here today, and I hope he has enough sense in his pea brain to help these people out. They/we need fuel, food, shelter, ect and from what I saw today, covering a good part of NJ today, there is virtually no help from our wonderful federal government. If this was some foreign country, the'd be sending boat loads of food, fuel, generators and supplies. I'll get off my soap box now. Someone "in charge" DO SOMETHING!! __________________ |
