The blue is a GM color called " Blue Your Mind" I'm not sure which brand paint was used. I wanted a 2015 Corvette ZR1 blue. This was as close as I could get without using the very expensive sky-blue GM Corvette paint. The paint code is 135X.

Huntsville Dragway photos

I took my Chevelle to Huntsville Dragway last Friday to take some pictures. I was able to go onto the track but not make passes. They had a private session going on. I can't wait to make a few passes with the car, but I still need to install the C-clip eliminator kit on the 12-bolt rear. HSV hooks really well with good tires. I'd hate to break an axle and damage the car.

1966 Chevelle Update

I've made a few changes to my Chevelle. The worst was installing Holley Sniper EFI. This unit damaged to my engine / car more than I would ever dream possible. I purchased the 550-872 Stealth unit. I've spent more money tuning this thing, including oil and spark plug changes. The EFI dumps so much gas it ends up in the crank case and it fowls spark plugs like crazy. I was told that is part of the fun running Holley EFI. I took the car to their local Holley tuner and spent over $500 getting the unit setup and running correctly. The car was running the best it ever did with the EFI on it when I left their shop.
On the way home from this car show the EFI goes crazy, it starts dumping fuel into my engine, the headers get over heated so much it applies the front brakes. The unit shuts down and leaves me on the side of the road without any power. Lucky, I have AAA, so I get the car hauled home on a roll back. Call Holley on Monday and was told it was RFI that caused the unit to crap out. SORRY HOLLEY, last straw. I will be replacing their EFI with the 900 CFM carb I should have left on in the first place. YES $3,500 and many aggravating months later I will replace it with what I had in the first place. I remember being told by an old school drag racer " Leave well enough alone!!" Live and learn. I will be sticking with my carburetor going forward. |
Was the girl with the sash the tow truck driver?

Beautiful car. Good to see you have kept it all these years.
Sorry to hear about the Holley nightmare, but not uncommon. Curious why you never blacked out the grill. |

I had the grill and molding chrome plated. I've gone back and forth about painting it. It should be black, but I just can't bring myself to paint the chrome plating. It cost too much to cover the chrome with paint.

Maybe look into getting it wrapped ?? No damage to the chrome, if you decide to remove it later.
Question, well another question, what are the 427 emblems from ? I have a 494 in my '66 and want to change over the 396 emblems. Thanks |

I thought about wrapping it. But with the Holley EFI problems all I was concerned about was getting it running and not destroying my $15,000 BBC. The Holley EFI consumed me and all my resources. How that I have decided to move away from the EFI there are a few other items I want address. Detail items like the grill and the interior. This is a blue / blue car. I always liked the combination. The car had a new black interior when I purchased the car. I would like to redo it blue as it should be.

I hear ya on the Holley debacle consuming all resources. It sucks when that happens and it never does work out.
The 2 tone, Bright blue interior is a beautiful combination and will really make the exterior pop, even more. My '66 was originally Black interior and I have a complete, Legendary, interior in Light Fawn still sitting in their packages after 8 years of waiting to get installed. Hopefully soon... |
