No sheeeeeet? I'll be watching carefully. I am interested in how this thing works when you shift it like you hate it

I miss the OD gear I used to have. I do not miss the Tremec shift quality.

Best of luck Eric!

Looks to be very exciting. I am thrilled to know we'll be getting some honest feedback on this unit.

I've never had to be concerned with drive shaft speeds but it is now on my radar. Careful with 5th gear till you get those 3 series gear in the back! Also looking forward to your comparison of a traditional Hurst shifter to the internal on the Legend box.

Thanks for the update with pics! Shoudl read "Eric Rocks"

Never seen one of those transmissions. Looks to be built like a brick $hithouse! Let us know how it works out and whether it requires any floor or crossmember mods.

Looks like I *may have* found a potential problem that was missed when the Quicktime bellhousing was installed. Once I confirm I'll post the details so (hopefully) others won't overlook what I did.

I'm sure you will work your way through this "potential Problem" ...

Re: Chevelle updates: shifting gears

I was right...one snuck by me.

When I installed the Quicktime bellhousing, I re-used the trans mounting bolts I'd used with the reproduction 621 bellhousing that was in the car before. They are 1/2-13 X 2" along with a lock washer and one flat washer per bolt.

I didn't notice that the upper two holes on the Quicktime bellhousing were partially blind. When I installed the Muncie onto the Quicktime bellhousing, the upper two bolts just barely bottomed out before drawing the trans down fully tight. They were tight enough where no play could be felt, but I'm sure in operation there had to be at least a slight amount of movement. I did note that the broken ears from the Supercase were still somewhat tight to the bellhousing when the broken trans was removed, but they weren't fully tight.

I measured the thickness of the mounting ears on both trans', and the Legend box is notably thicker (exact measurements are out in the shop, I forgot to bring them in with me).

Below are two pics of the new Legend trans with new 1/2-13 X 2" Grade 8 bolts along with a lock washer and two flat washers on each bolt. They are snugged down pretty tight, and as you can see they terminate just about perfectly out the back of the bolt bosses on the bellhousing.

Passenger side:

Here's the mounting face of the bellhousing showing the clean-up skim cut it received on the mill after putting the lower passenger side mounting tab back into position.

As you can see, it was barely enough to remove the powdercoating. It's again parallel to .000"

The clutch disc has been swapped, a new pilot bushing has been installed, and the bellhousing is back in place. I'll try to get the trans under the car tomorrow.

More to come.

Those images were on my old website, the links are no good any more.
