Steve
It was a pleasure to have met them at MCACN in 2016. Great Memories.

He held the single engine powerboat record for circumnavigating Long Island, I believe. The record was never broken. He also had a speedboat with twin 409s in it. As well as a number of L88 powered boats. I remember he showed me a photo of their record breaking run and he was at the helm and his partner was hanging halfway over the front of the boat like a masthead, to add weight to balance the nose. Imagine doing that for any length of time is insane.

EDIT: I just googled the record and it looks like it was finally broken last year by a 17 year old kid after 54 years on the books!

He was so much fun to talk to.

I would purposely get him into bench racing discussions just to set him off and listen to his old stories. When I told him that the guy that he sold the car to back in 1982 or so, had given the car a tuneup it didn't need and threw away the original distributor cap, Rick dug through his records, found the guys phone number and called him up and yelled at him after hanging up with me.

Imagine having some random Octogenarian cold call you and start screaming at the top of his lungs about something that happened 30 years ago.

It was priceless. He was that curmudgeonly, lovable grandpa that everyone wished they had.

I was thinking about how to celebrate his life? I might have to save up some money and finally buy that set of new reproduction Goodyear Steelgard Radials that SmallHurst sells. The car needs to be driven more. Monday was the first time it left the garage this year. You think my son would forgive me if I didn't pay his college tuition installment this month? (in honor of Rick) :-)

Sorry to hear about the original owner - sounds like a neat guy to say the least.

Steve I think we all know how we can remember and celebrate Ricks life: Give us all that guys phone number or address and we'll ALL call and write to that guy about that missing distributor, he'll get a thousand calls and letters on Monday. https://www.preludepower.com/forums/...ilies/turn.gif

Just got off the phone with Rusty and ordered the set of G70x15 Steelgards. Hopefully they will be here this week in time for the last cruise of the year on Saturday.

Fingers crossed.
