My condolences to Ben's family....

Not only have you done a stellar job in restoring the car (not to mention your perseverance in FINDING it!), but your documentation of the stories and people related to the car are just amazing

Sorry to hear of your friend's loss Roger. You certainly have some great memories and it was nice that you hooked back up with him recently.

Roger,
I hope your experience at MCACN was everything they promised you it would be. You were surrounded by some mighty fine folks in the COPO display and your Chevelle was certainly one of the highlights of the event. Unfortunately I only got to say Hi one time, but I hope to have another opportunity soon.

Re: Special Order Paint Codes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are speaking special paint in 69 and how it was shwn on the tag the following are what I have observed so far. Atlanta, Baltimore and Kansas used dashes "- -", Freemont used a single dash " - ", I have no examples for Framington or Oshawa yet. Additionally the Kansas tags had AVO and a sequential number listed on their tags, they fall into sequence when the VINs are in order. The highest AVO number I have is AVO 227 and it is a 07C build week body. I would say there were possibly less than 300 special paint jobs for 69 at the Kansas plant. The odd thing is a couple of the AVO tags are for 72 color painted cars. I do not have enough details about those cars to investigate farther at this time. This AVO code also was used on Buicks built at the same plant, so it wasn't limited to chevelles. hope this helps Andy

Re: special paint code on kanas built cars

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think it might depend on the year. For 1969, I have what appear to be the special paint codes, the letters AVO followed by a 3 digit number. This number seems to go sequential regardless of the division and body model. the highest number I have found for 1969 is 227 and it falls in build week 07C. so it is quite possible there were less than 300 for that build year. if anyone has found additional AVO coded trim tags for 1969 chevelles, I'd like to include them in my research, a picture of the tag is wanted on these during addition to the research. This is strickly based on what I have reported/found during my ongoing research and in no way is the final word. FWIW Andy
