Looking good. Anodes, cathodes, +, -, electrons, neutrons and protons; I think you are now a plater and designated Mallory restoration expert. Are you happy with the results? I did the home phosphate kit at one time with limited unexpected (good) results and a buddy of mine tried the zinc plating deal, minimal success with that though. Parts look good overall. Looking forward to seeing the finished project. Phil W. |

Woj, I did another batch tonight and I think I am getting the hang of it. Time, current, and surface area to be plated are the variables that have to be balanced. I'm getting bright, lusterous finish that looks like the fastener bins at the hardware store. I finished restoring the distributor body this evening too. I'll post some more progress shots tomorrow. P.S. Woj: I don't know if mixing my own solutions (so I know what is in there) is making a difference for me vs. the home kits. I did a bunch of research to determine what the correct ingredients and proportions should be. I am looking forward to the black zinc process as I really like this finish and I feel it is a very close to correct looking finish for many GM fasteners. |

Most of the distributor piece parts are plated except for some internal parts. Those and the Mallory coil I'll get to this weekend....

I hear you Linda. But, something your hubby said is just stickin' in my craw. You have someone with a distributor machine to adjust the points for you? [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif[/img]
When I worked at a speed shop years ago we always adjuster the four lobe Mallory points on the machine to be sure the cylinders all fired at exactly 90 degree seperation. That's near impossible to do with a feeler guage. |
