I would say go full circle once again....kind of like a special memorial for the original owner....I sense that he was very passioniate about his drag car. So I vote to scan and trace all the old photo`s...put back the lettering on the car and bring it back to life as it once was.....a Drag Car.

Re: Details 1969 396 375hp SS Nova 19,538 miles *D
I personally would go drag car in a flash. To drive a drag car with some cheater slicks 15x10 rims, some louder exhaust would be a blast from the past! What got me hook on old racer cars was this car I just picked up last month in Hollywood FL it turn 9.82 at 138mph in the 1/4mile!

Strat, Stop hi-jacking the Nova`s thread....now let`s get back on track with the Nova. Dan. [/ QUOTE ] I'm just showing you on how popular these vintage drag cars are going to get. I think Mike was and still is ahead of the curve with his car collection of old race cars he's just playing the super big leagues with his type of cars though. I really feel with a nostalgia race cars you don't have to worry to much if the header bolt has the correct style head markings on it. But then there are the purists which is also great to look at but now we just compare condition and tell them whats wrong on there car or whats right. |

I vote stock with a $5,000 smog system https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif and dog dish caps. Hopefully the original Muncie shifter will at least shift into first and reverse so he can get it into the trailer and then to the show and then back home again. Then Johnny P. can cover it up in his garage till the next show. Stock with a Gardner exhaust!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif and NONE of this https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Light up your flaming arrows https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif IMHO, unless the drag car has some sort of notoriety, ala record holder of some sort, famous owner, driver or tuner, it's just another driveway creation - and should be restored back to it's stock condition. How many people are going to ooooh & aaaah over an obnoxiously lettered up, hillbilly suspensioned, wanna be drag-star that nobody ever saw run?

In a similar tone as Marlins,I say leave this one as is...for now.
Maybe have some 1/4 panel vinyl graphics made up saying "CHEVY II TUFF",that can be applied & removed at area shows around here and see if anybody is drawn to that name at first. If that stimulates a few stories/pictures/super 8 movies showing up,then turn it up full bore to it's racing glory. If not, take it back to the assembly line. |

Old nostalgic drag cars are the new wave, this thread is 140 pages long! You can see some Arnie Beswick and Grumpy's toy's I think on page 2. |
Re: Details 1969 396 375hp SS Nova 19,538 miles *D
I'll throw my opinion in too. I have a 70 Nova with a 427 in it. Not quite an L88, but close. It is a blast to drive, so I would lean towards leaving the L88 in the car. Do what has to be done to get the original driveline and store it. When (if) you ever get tired of the big incher, put it back to all original. In the meantime, beat the crap out of it.
