Re: Vintage Wheels
VERY cool! Note the larger diameter of the tire stripes on those old Firestones. Coker must have copied a later design from '68-'69?

[ QUOTE ] Here's another fly-by-nite outfit. [/ QUOTE ] Bob Creitz a "fly-by-night?" I hardly think so. Very impressive machine shop. Had the first dyno in the area. Still in business here in Tulsa: "Creitz Automotive." I don't work for him, nor am I soliciting anything. He did a lot of work for me and I was always thrilled with the results of his work/products. |
Re: Vintage Wheels
I meant that he didn't appear to be in the wheel business very long. Didn't mean to take away any credit he deserves for his other work, but in the history of vintage wheels, his were more of a flash in the pan. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Cool pic, and neat looking fly by night wheels. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Re: Vintage Wheels
I understand where someone would not recognize the Creitz name and might think they were a small time operation. Not so. They did make intake manifolds, wheels and other speed equipment. Their bolt-together modular wheel design was years ahead of the trend. Do a search online for Creitz & Donovan and you will see a top-notch AA fuel dragster with serious racing credentials.

Re: Vintage Wheels
My friend Terry Vaughan is a wheel restorer up in Burlington, WA. His specialty is '60s wheels, especially Torq-Thrusts, but he also works on newer wheels too. He is building a new website and I wanted to post it here.
http://mysite.verizon.net/restdtpg/ I bought a set of old TTs from terry a few months ago and here is what he is capable of: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../Wheels005.jpg as well as: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...tTerry15x7.jpg If you have anything to add as far as Terry's site is concerned you can e-mail him at: [email protected] |

Those wheels look awesome!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Vintage Wheels
I'd like to know where he gets his lug nuts from. It's VERY hard to find the shallow shank of the right diameter for the hole in the wheel.
Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif |
Re: Vintage Wheels
E-mail him Verne. Terry included the correct lug nuts with the set of TTs that I bought from him. No more double-washers, etc.
|
Re: Vintage Wheels
I wish I known thay you could get the correct lugs. I bought a set of lugs and then had them machined to get them to work correctly.

Re: Vintage Wheels
Found these photos in the October, 1957 Hot Rod.
Article titled "Oakland Strip Star" featuring Palamides Automotive sponsorship and early Palamides magnesium wheels on the rear. Car was owned by Pete Ogden. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...idesWheel1.jpg Close up of Palamides bolt-on mag wheel. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...idesWheel2.jpg Also in the 10/57 issue was a feature on the then-dominant slingshot dragster campaigned by Emory Cook and Cliff Bedwell. The Cook & Bedwell car used Palamides magnesium wheels out back. Driver is Emory Cook, who showed Don Garlits how to modify Stromberg carbs for using nitro. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...idesWheel4.jpg Close up of C&B rear wheel, this one a knock-off. Note logo for Bruce's Tires, an early maker of slicks. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...idesWheel3.jpg And, also from this issue, an ad for Bruce slicks featuring the Cook & Bedwell car. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...idesWheel5.jpg |

Re: Vintage Wheels
I'm confused abotu the "M/T No. 1 Mag Type" wheel (the Challenger style). It says heli-arc welded, but every one I've seen was riveted together!

14x6 Foresight Drag Mags. I also have a set of 15x7s but they are too wide in the rear.
