Re: Backyard finds today
This is kinda of interesting, my cousin's friend bought some land in Wilburton OK and found a 69 Lemans of in the middle of a wooded area. The car has so many trees grown around it they say it can never be gotten out, short of buldozing I guess. It was complete and had been there since the 70's some time. They are bringing it out in pieces, here is the front end after my cousin re assembled it in his garage.

Re: Backyard finds today
The people that found it said the only thing that was off was the trunk lid, but it was laying on the ground behind it. Too bad, cause it would have been PERFECT had not the ground rusted the edge it was sitting on. I got the chrome trim off the back if anyone wants it, not bad condition. I told him I'ed put it on Ebay for him.

Re: Backyard finds today
And then there is this 68, I couldn't find any kids to open the hood for me so I had to settle talking to the owner. The GTO isn't for sale but the piano is; $100, I even played a song on it and it's still in tune. Real ivory keys too.

Re: Backyard finds today
It'll be in tune until you move it unlike the '68 which doesn't look like it's going to be in tune for a while.

Re: Backyard finds today
Shame on you Steve- Don't you know that Fords have feelings too!!!!!

Re: Backyard finds today
Funny thing about the 68, it's a low mileage numbers match 4sp car. Has had a frame off (paint job as opposed to restoration), the red that peaks through is the original paint. It has never been painted, just some primer and dirt. The guy started to paint it in 1986, stopped in 1987 and here it sits ever since.
The piano has Chicago on it and some name I couldn't read, I may go back and drop a bill on that. |

Larry
I suppose hookers have feelings also. |

Re: Backyard finds today
I was able to get into the ditch last week and take some pics. I have higher res pics of all posted, so if anyone wants better pics specifically let me know. Unfortunately someone has been in there sometime this past Fall and raped a couple of the cars to include the 55 'vert. They took the tags and cut the top of the windshield frame off and took all the top bows. Brave souls.....my father-in law WILL shoot you! Anyhow, check out the link if you want to see pics of what the ditch looks like. EPA officials need not apply! Final resting place?

Yeah, I'd have darn-near wrecked my car if I'd seen a blue 'bird peeking out of someone's garage! Love the colors--blue/black with white guts. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif [/ QUOTE ] Looks plum crazy to me https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |

I've never seen anything like that or such neglect.. How did all those cars get in that "ditch"? Who owned them prior to their demise? It's incredible that classic cars end up this way.. I mean what put them there to begin with? Slipped time chain? Bad coil? Fuel pump quit? Lack of interest? It's just a damn shame. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif |
Re: Backyard finds today
Not that it really makes much difference, but that first car you have listed as a '59 is actually a '60... either way, it's soon to be one with the earth. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Re: Backyard finds today
Holy crap !!! How deep is that ditch ? How in hell did they all get there I wonder...
|
Re: Backyard finds today
The oldest plate I could find on any of them was 1963. Although I do know that the "T" that is buried was already buried there before my wife's family purchased the place in the 40s. The cars were put in there mostly by friends/relatives of my father-in-law. Most of which were friends who lived in town and had nowhere else to dispose of them. I agree with your horror/disgust, but realize that these cars went in before the collector car idea was probably hatched. Most of the cars did get put in there because of jumped timing chains, wrecks, blown motors, etc. They were by no means irrepairable when they went in. The itch is in places 8-12 feet deep, I suppose. It runs approximately 1/4 mile or so. Also, you need to keep in mind that this ditch is NOT the exception around here....it is more the rule. There are somewhere around 5-10 such ditches within a 3 mile radius. Here is something for everyone to think about. With many supercars being sold/used in the mid-West (IL,MN,WS,IA,MO,IN) and so many of these ditches around.....is it any wonder there are so many cars "missing"? There are still some of these cars that could be pulled out and something done with them. If there is anything you see that you want more info or have info on the year, etc please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Backyard finds today
Not sure about the "soon to be one with the earth" statement. That car has been in there for the better part of 35 years, and is mostly still there. There isn't much of it touching the ground!
|
Re: Backyard finds today
Belair, most were pushed in with the tractor. Where they hit the bottom is where they sit today. Some of the cars have actually acted as a decent shield to preserve some of the interior parts on some of the cars. The 68 Impala station wagon is acting as a donor for a lot of parts for my Camaro (steering wheel, seat belts, etc.).

Re: Backyard finds today
Weird..wonder what kind of stuff lives down inside those things !
|
Re: Backyard finds today
Raccoons and snakes mostly. That is why late Fall/early Winter is the best time to get in there. Summer is out of the question (bugs, mud, vegetation, and snakes rule the land!).

Re: Backyard finds today
The blue car you wondered about in one of your photos is a '52-'54 Ford sedan. Maybe a Customline? It's the car under the '60 Chevy. The Chevelle is a '67.

Re: Backyard finds today
The ole 428 is coming along, and check out the cool valley pan I just got from Butler. Don't know if he is making them, but very nice piece.

Re: Backyard finds today
And some one thought the cars in the ditch were far gone, well look at this. There is nothing left, no wonder they get around on tricycle now.

Re: Backyard finds today
The truck with the roof lights is a 45-50 International 1-1/2 ton truck.
The other car in the picture is a 46-48 Ford 2 Door Sedan. The truck that is semi complete is a Studebaker. |
Re: Backyard finds today
Isn't a Stude truck pretty uncommon?

Re: Backyard finds today
Hey, the '68 Camaro that started this thread is on eBay right now. RS/SS 396, no motor, 4-speed car, 3:31 Posi, red car (R2) with black insides. It's the same car as the photo in Post #1.

This one was in the way. He made me take them both. The yellow one is a 289 3spd console CA smog equiped power top. The 67 is a rusty MN car. Earl

Re: Backyard finds today
This is more like a closet find....
I was looking up some old numbers for people on Classical Pontiac and found these in an old note book I hadn't opened in almost 20 years. http://www.empgmc.com/race/wow.jpg |

Re: Backyard finds today
Do you have a 1112126 or 27 in there somewhere? That would be a single point for my 72 455 HO (the car didn't have the unitized ignition)

Re: Backyard finds today
Steve
Sorry to say no, but I'm going back to buy more from the guy today and will look. Here is what I got yesterday: 1111970 111164 1112008 1111250 1112097 1111047 1111052. |

Re: Backyard finds today
Is this a 1968 firebird with a 69 trans am front end?
|
Re: Backyard finds today
Yes, that is what it was. The car was wrecked later after the pic. The fenders burned in a building fire along with several GTO's, the hood belongs to some one local here now and has been stored since he got it.
