It was one of his advanced insane math courses that I can’t even begin to understand even when he explains it to me.

My son and I went to the local cruise night on Saturday. He brought his Camaro and I brought the Heckitty. I saw several people walk by the car and then tilt their heads and come back and look again. It was the stripes! It seems that at various light angles, those burgundy stripes completely disappear and then if you hit the right angle, they pop back out at you. It's like one of those 3D stickers from the 1970's. I had a lot of positive responses. Just one negative vote from some old crabby guy. (older than me). It was funny - his wife told him to shut up and keep walking. Apparently she liked them. LOL

Installed the brake air deflectors today. With photos...and some spelling tips

Or as Dodge calles them "AIR DEFLCETORS". Ugh.
These come in a package in the trunk. Most likely left off due to the fact that they would interfere with chassis tiedowns during shipment. Pretty straightforward once you get the car on stands and take the front wheels off. The only deviation from the instructions I suggest is that you install them about an inch and a half from the bump on the arm and not 3/4 of an inch. If you try to do the 3/4 of an inch route, you will break the "DEFLCETOR" when you tighten it down because the arm curves slightly due to a thickening of the metal in that area. Goes rather smoothly as long as you have that special Snap-On 10mm deflcetor wrench available. |

And I got some photos of the factory installed oil filter because there is an ongoing debate over what filter these come iwth. Some people think they should have the SRT whote cannister filter but as you can see, it's the regular old "899" filter on a 2022 Redeye engine.
Interesting factory stenciling says "FACTORY INSTALLED" on the 04884899AC filter. Also interesting to see that it's a 2015 filter from the copyright printing. |
Looks like someone/you tightened the jam nut on the tie rod end a little more.
What is the purpose of the dealer installed deflc-e-tor ? |

They are for extra brake rotor cooling.

Just got my new set of Michellin Pilot Sport 4S tires 275/40ZR20 from DiscountTireDirect. They had a $110 off flash sale which dropped the $393 price by $27.50 per wheel. Getting them installed this week. These things do seem a lot stickier already - they got dropped off by the Fedex truck and sat in my driveway for an hour. They were sticky from the heat already and picked up every piece of dirt and dust when I rolled them into the garage! I am looking forward to swapping out the Michellins for the fossilized hockeypuck Pirellis ASAP.
I also swapped out the factory brake pads (which make a ton of brake dust) with Powerstop Z36 pads front and rear. It is amazing how far brakes have come in the past 30 years. The small four piston Brembo rear calipers on this car are the same Brembo calipers on the front of my 1993 Viper! |
You will really like the Powerstop pads and the Michelins. I made the same swap in my wife's 2015 SS Sports Sedan. The brake dust is non-existent and we didn't notice any reduction in stopping power. The Michelins ride and handle much better than the stock Bridgestones.

She is up on jackstands and I have the tires off the car awaiting remounting for tomorrow or wednesday so at that point I'll be checking my nuts (so to speak) for tightness.
|
And my real license plates arrived today after 9 weeks. No more temp tags!

I respectfully disagree based on my personal experience, especially with German cars. And, believe it or not, there is still some German technology in the higher end Chrysler products; guessing left over from the merger/divorce. I have successfully gone to "white dust" type pads using the same rotors on several different cars. Pagids are the worst, but not exclusive, offender.
|
I got the Michellin PSP4s installed today. It rides so much nicer and handles more precisely. Also, (the fun part) when you hit the gas, the tires just chirp and launch you forward when it shifts into the next gear. Like, brutally! They don't just go up in smoke like the Pirellis did. What a difference! Totally changed how the car behaves. I dont have to be so apprehensive when using the right pedal anymore (other than making sure it's pointed in a straight line).

I was going to head out to cruise night but it was cancelled due to an impending storm. So I took some photos in the cloudy afternoon light. I also bought some 0W-40 oil and a Wix 57063 filter to change the oil in the next few days. I have 500 miles on her now. I always change oil early, on a brand new engine just to get any assembly line break-in contaminants out of the system.
Yesterday I actually found one of the unobtanium 5038041AA Mopar SRT oil filters at Rockauto - they showed one in stock after being out of stock for months, so I grabbed it for $14. I'll use that for the next filter change. They are made for Mopar by Wix but have a fancy SRT label on them. Otherwise they are exactly the same as the regular Wix 57063. They were originally designed for the last generation Vipers with special internal valving and filter material. |
I've found rockauto helpful with hard to find later model stuff.
|
I put in the "alert me when available" message they have in their parts lookup but I just happened to find it during my daily check of the filter part number on their website.
Here's a tip: when you want an alert make sure you just put in "1" for the amount needed. I put in 2 to get extras and it didn't trigger the alert email because they only had one available. |
I just checked the mail and a letter arrived with a $138 refund from the dealer for overpayment on the NJ registration estimate. Just enough for a tank of gas!!!
Dealing with the the Dodge dealer in Virginia was great, other other than the 9 weeks it took for plates to arrive. Now that I think of it, it actually took longer to get my plates than it did to get the actual car! LOL |
My Honda spec's 0-20 oil and, to me, the 0 is only to reduce internal engine drag and decrease mileage. I refuse to put a 0 anything oil in an engine and expect it to live as well as with the older 5-20 oil. I had a hard time going to the 5-20 years ago, when it dropped from 10-30...

I changed the oil and filter and drained the oil cooler (an additional cup and a 1/3 comes out of there). In total 7-1/2 quarts of very black-looking oil came out. Pennzoil 0W-40 SRT is supposed to be the factory fill. Compare that amount to the capacity refill recomendation of 7 quarts with filter and that would lead you to believe they do put something extra in there at assembly. I was wondering why the dipstick showed a full 1/2 inch above the full line. After refilling with 7 quarts it is now exactly at the fill line.
I sent a sample out to Blackstone Labs and here's the results. Interesting. It looks like the factory adds some type of moly additive given the high level present. A few other owners have posted very similar results from their own factory fill first oil changes (three other cars at 500, 600 and 1700 miles). The oil pan does have a fancy-shmancy Hellcat SRT logo on it. And all the drain plugs and filter were properly fastened. I double-checked because of some horror stories from other owners about assembly line finger-tight drain plugs. I did replace the oil pan drain plug with a heavy duty magnetic version. |

The county finally finished paving my street after leaving me with a 6" drop-off at the end of my driveway for a week.
So I took the heckitty out for drive today. Just got back from a cruise night and this is what she showed: |
Rhut Rhoh, better put some more miles on her quick...:eek2:

Got 750 miles on her now!
I had the Heckitty out at a cruise night a week ago and some young dad and his little kids came by. They were probably 7 and 9 years old. One of them starts schooling his dad on the Hellcat and the engine and points out the logo on the fender to him. When he was done telling his dad about what a Hellcat was, I said to the two boys: Do you see the tiny red eye in the face of the logo there? They both got really close and looked and nodded, yes. I said that's how you can tell its a Redeye and not just a regular Hellcat, so remember to always look to check for the red cat eyes, for future reference. They both looked at each other like I had just told them the secret to the universe. They were very stoked! Looks like we got two future Hellcat collectors in a couple decades. |
Barely noticeable on a red car. Probably stands out on a white or black car.
|
You should have took them for a ride... Can you imagine the impact?
I know this is also easy to say on a Monday morning |

UGH!
Dodge just announced they are bringing back Plum Crazy for the final 2023 model year. Looks like I may have to do this all over again and then trade in or sell the TripleRedeye... My wife said "No way" (she loves this color) My son says "Yes way" (He reminds me that I always wanted the Plum Crazy and chose the red as a fallback)...dammit, I hate when my kids are logical. My daughter says whatever we have, she's using to drive to her wedding in next year. Dodge also revealed a licensed convertible for the Challenger with orders opening tomorrow. Kind of like how the initial Third Gen F-Body ragtops were made - at a contractor facility. https://blog.stellantisnorthamerica....51453yVobowkMw And they revealed an $8000 body in white (which will get every crashed hellcat back on the road) https://blog.stellantisnorthamerica....n-fiber-parts/ And a full carbon fiber 1970 Charger restomod body via Direct Connection. with a 1970 Road Runner and 1970 Cuda to come. Go here for the full insane reveal from today: Fast forward to the 6:15 mark for the unveilings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD7k..._channel=Dodge |
Sheesh, it's about dang time they offered a convertible! I've been saying that for years as it makes the perfect convertible that actually has a rear seat that's kind of usable. They would have sold a million to rental car companies as well as individuals. I'll have to check out that video, thanks.
|
It's a $26,000 option for it to be ordered, drop shipped to Florida and then shipped back to Mopar and then to you.
|
Just watched it. Some pretty sick stuff coming like that '70 Charger in CF. With any luck/blessings, this whole rush to EV's will slow down and everyone will realize that it will not work in the near future and that hybrids are a far better answer currently. JMHO.
|
They are doing all this then cancelling the charger and challenger after 2023?!
|
yup. And last night they did the "big" unveiling of the little hybrid Hornet SUV coming next year. LOL.
The only upside was the GLH concept they debuted but didn't release the specs other than alluding to it having twice the power as the original GLHS. But they SOOOOO missed the marketing coup they could have had by adding a single letter. GLH = (Goes Like Hell) versus GLHC = (Goes Like Hell CAT) |
Tonght they debut the upcoming musclecar that is replacing the Challenger and Charger. Maybe hybrid, maybe full electric? But no more hemi. We shall see...
|
Was that the two door Charger?

They called it the Charger Daytona Banshee. :hmmm:
The Banshee looks just like the 1999 Charger concept car that debuted 23 years ago (with the grill off a 1967 Rally Sport Camaro). Everyone back then wanted them to build it. I guess it took 25 years to finally get through the corporate approval process. https://www.supercars.net/blog/1999-...er-rt-concept/ |

I spent another day cleaning the garage and discovered another acre of room. Enough room that I could move Grandpa's Lincoln to the far side of the garage next to Grandma's Firebird and then relocated the tiny, mini-viper next to the Full-Figured Heckkitty. I had no idea how large that Challenger was.
I found a whole bunch of more shrapnel to sell, too. |
