I think I have the chrome tail pipes looking as good as possible considering they were probably flash chromed like other pieces. I will use a little silver header paint to add a little color to the areas that weren't polished before chroming.
I took to the exhaust head pipes & the pipes that go over the axle to the place that does my powder coating. They use a high heat product called Cerakote for headers so it should be just fine for the head pipes. Found a color that hopefully is close to new exhaust tubing. I'll post some pictures when they return Found the X6 that has been discussed about Norwood cars....Joe |

Waiting for the exhaust to come back, here's some of the rearend. It was in good shape & original to the car. Killer 3.07 single track. Left everything stock. All powder coated with BK02 Cardinal. Closest match I could find to original pieces. Arizona plays nice with some of the chassis pieces....Joe

The original leaf springs were soaked in evap-o-rust, washed completely & then hit with 0000 steel wool. Sprayed lightly with satin clear. NOS bushings used in the forward eyes. (I hope I put the spring decals in the correct place)...Joe

The car being from Tucson, all the hardware & brackets were in great condition. Original "S" shackles & bolts/nuts & NOS bushings. Original spring pockets. Original spring plates & brake cable guides. I also have NOS spring pads. All powdered back to original color. Managed to scare up some original "832" rear shocks....Joe

Looking really good Joe. The diff housing looks terrific and I really like the clear look on the springs. I'm sure you're busy trying to decide what to put where and what to do first.

Once the exhaust comes back, I want to install it & all the rearend pieces. At that point I can get one end off the cart....Joe |
Looking good Joe
|
Thank you Guy. I have a bunch of bolts to redo. That will be starting today...Joe
|
Joe, looking really nice. Spring decals are in the proper location.
All of the NOS leaf springs I have seen, have a bluish tint from the heat treat. - Warren |

Over the last couple of days, I've been putting together bolts & items that require phosphate coating. I put them on this cardboard so when I'm done with the process, they can go back to the board....Joe

Also got the exhaust pipes back today. The color should be a little darker but they came out nice. Their next color was almost black. Never separated them from the kick over pipes. If they fell apart, that would've been a different story...Joe

I haven't posted much on the 1969 Camaro restore lately. Been doing little things like restoring bolts & exhaust. Today I was able to re-install all the exhaust system, leave springs & the rearend. It's amazing what you can get done in a few hours if you have all your ducks in a row...Joe

Looking good buddy.
Now slow down a bit so I have a chance of catching up with you. I need about 3/4 weeks or so and then we be game on. I think I am starting to gather a good sense of the frustration people go through trying to do these yellow interiors. (Ugggh) Cars looking really good Joe. :burnout: |
Looks great ,step by step

I got wheels & tires back today. I chose white line Goodyears because that's what was with the car when I bought it in 1981. I also chose the polyglas tire because of the late build of my car. Previously I didn't care for the XT wheel without trim ring with the Daytona yellow color. Now I might like it, maybe because the white line adds to the look. Red/white lined or white walled tires were very popular in 1969. Nearly 1/2 the 1969 Camaros built came with this feature
|
Looks great. Personally I prefer the look without the trim ring
|
Looks good Joe , no trim rings is the look.
|
Looks great, Joe. I like the looks of the white stripe tire and the dog dish cap. The car is coming along nicely.

Made some more progress today. I sprayed the trunk area this morning. After lunch, it was dry enough to put the back end together.
Thank you for everyone's thoughts on the wheels. For now I will leave the trim rings off...Joe |

Actually doing quite a lot of little things with the car. Not all worth posting pictures of. Waiting on finding a more correct headliner. That will help lots of other things to keep moving. Carpet is trying to relax from being in a box for so long. I did get the flaps installed onto the wheel wells which were powder coated originals. Also sprayed the underside with deadener. Had to add a couple of other items to the RH well for the factory a/c. I think the guy who put the staples in from the factory must've been hungover as he almost missed on the RH well near the bottom.

Also waiting for the fenders to have the striping done. At that point emblems can be attached & then I can install wheel well. I assembled the valance assy. Little by little.
|
Colour looks dang perfect Joe. Looking forward to seeing your Camaro come together.
|
Looking great Joe. Particularly like the replication of the factory paint coverage on the inside of the extensions and valance :beers:
Interested which inner fender splash shields you went with? I bought mine from Steele Rubber, based on other’s comments on the thickness, but am a way off installing yet. Yours look good. |

I think I bought Steele also. I made staples using galvanized wire. Couldn't duplicate the curl on the back side though. Graeme is going to pass me up if I don't get it together :) |

Core support is basically all back together after powder coating, NOS bushings, regulator, & horn relay. I won't be able to install it all together. I just wanted to show what a fully dress a/c core support looked like. Upper seal isn't made correctly. Found a used upper seal years ago..Joe
|
Dang ,sure is looking good joe.

I spent some of yesterday doing the first glass adjustments. It's real close. The final adjustment will follow after headliner, windlace, & roof rail metal is in place for the last time. I had a couple of brackets wrong inside the doors so that took a little time. Today I laid out some of the NOS parts that I would use today. Installed vertical seal & outer window seals (fuzzies). Also installed the "U" shaped rubber pieces in the door jams.
|
Great shot of a non RS setup for the horn relay, voltage reg and washer bottle mounting.
Straight on pic is hard to get of that when its in a car. Everything looks great so far. |
Thanks Mike. I'm having fun with this.
I'm also getting closer to the day when I can install that beautiful. NOS dash pad you brought me at MCACN.....Joe |
Looking great Joe, nice progress!
|
Joe....where did you get the core support a/c rubber seals? I need to ck mine i dont remember the condition as they have been laying in a box for 15 or so years. Your work looks great! Tom

In reference to the bracket shown resting on the roll of Blue shop towels (spot welded to the lower valence in the center)
There is a painting note in the AIM UPC 11/13 SHEET B6. (MASK BRACKET WHEN PAINTING VALENCE PANEL) Pretty sure the bracket should be black flow coat primer. https://www.yenko.net/forum/attachme...1&d=1605405766 |
I saw that also but at the time the car was painted I couldn't find any evidence of this on survivor cars I observed. Would be easy to do if I could find one known original sample. Do you know of any? Thank you, Joe

Finally got one the items for the car, the melt pad for the trunk. One of our members here was nice enough the send me one he had laying around. Warmed it & the NOS trunk mat up out in the sun for a while & then installed them. Trunk mat was also purchased from one of our members. What a great group of people. One more piece of the puzzle....Joe
