Judge favoritism. I was at a show a few years ago and a guy who was buddies with the people (VFW) running the show beat out everyone at the show with his yellow 1994 Mustang 6 cylinder. Now I wouldn't even had been mad if the car was clean, but it was wiped down on the topside of the engine with normal used car dirt in the rest of the engine compartment, and it looked like he ordered most of the JC Whitney catalog for the engine dress up parts including yellow color-keyed hose coverings haphazardly wrapped around said hoses. Some of the other cars there were really nice pieces of work, but this guy won over all of them. Ridiculous.

70Z, my buddy had to buy a Lic plate bracket, he put it on the pass side, where is the correct location?

Just looked at a dozen photos of a 1970 RS/Z28 - all had the license plate in the same location. Ignore front spoiler - not correct |
Thasks, Ya, we were on the fence about the chin spoiler. We went with none.
He also had the firewood dash and he had to hunt down a green steering wheel with the rosewood in. Most early cars here in the Detroit area all have that 1974 Z steering wheel on, crazy. At the time I did his bay, we couldn’t find battery cables, he also left a chrome timing cover on which I hated, and the whole master, lines, booster was painted body color. He removed all the paint but that still all has to be done. |

Dan Thanks for mentioning the 50's Doo Wop music, ANNOYING :confused2: . It is not your age at all. I will be 73 this summer and cant stand the overuse of it. Lets here some Rock and even lots of good 80's stuff. And......It's to damn loud, we go to the shows and cruise in's to talk to people. |
Yes. Even when I cruise , I put all the crappy stock Radio back stuff in, I just want to hear the exhaust, no tunes, & no GF.

Hey thanks. I’m trying to get pics of his car. It’s even been years since we hung out.

https://i.postimg.cc/GmyCbYqm/IMG-7862.jpg What are your thoughts on people adding ram air to cars that never had it when they left the factory? |
I don't mind it if the factory offered it on that model. Putting a cowl hood on a Nova or 2nd Gen doesn't appeal to me at all.
|
Doesn't bother me unless they are trying to pass it off as something it isn't.
Also, doesn't bother me a bit to see almost any day two mod. Think about it. Johnny buys his new Z/28 and brings home an issue of Hot Rod. Did HR recommend he keep it stock? New tires and wheels, traction bars, headers, cheater slicks, and on and on. ALMOST NO ONE drove a bone stock HP car in the late 60's early 70's. First thing we wanted to do was figure out how to make it faster. |
I hate it when I try to clean my car, you pull the paper towels out of the trunk and they are the ones with the 1/2 sheets!
|
How about when there’s a hearse at a show, and some guy calls it a Hurst.
I’m not sure why a hearse is at a show but ..... |
Guys who put up those pop up canopies and don't anchor them. I had my car at a show last year and a guy pulled in next to me and put up one of those and didn't anchor it. He walked away and after a while the wind started getting up a little and his canopy started to blow away. A guy behind my car grabbed it and held it down. When the guy was located and told to anchor it or take it down he got mad and smarted off to me about not having a cool place to sit because of me.

That Firebird show in Dayton is at a new location. The show field has an incline. A guy clocking his valve stems, ( jacking up the car and spinning the tires) rolled back into his chair, cooler, and the big sign he puts out. Luckily no one was parked behind him at the moment. Crushed his chair and cooler lmfao

Austin has had a Rat Rod rally in April for years, the town is consumed by pre 1963 cars and trucks all ratted out. I used to hate seeing these and didn't like them at all. I've changed over the years and now I really enjoy seeing them and can appreciate the work involved in putting one together. We go downtown and watch them run up and down South Congress by the Continental Club, it's a blast.

Anyone that's been to central and Northern Arizona knows we almost always have the wind blowing, sometimes light, but we have what they call dust devils all the time that kick up some serious wind. Mini little tornados if you will that are completely unpredictable. It'll grab pebbles off the ground, dirt and debri, and especially a pop up or a lawn chair and just toss it everywhere. Last year with 3 cars shows in the area to choose from we decided to go to the only one that allowed those pop ups apparently. Sure enough a dust devil came through, grabbed a pop up and started tossing it all around the show cars. Of course it misses everyone until it ended up smashed into the front end of dad's GTO. I just finished painting it and it messed up the nose pretty good. The saddest part is how suddenly everyone that acts like your car buddy has no clue who owns the tent, no one claimed it. Talk about one pissed off old man, boy was he hot. |
Ever see the big ball sack hanging under a car. I don’t get that, just nasty. I guess if you love huge ball sacks.....

I found one of those ball sacks on my personal car after a trip for dinner with my friends on my birthday. My one buddy thinks he is the funniest guy around. He got it back...

It used to be popular but (IMO) now it's tacky . . . naming your car. |

Lowrider. Hate those.

Things that bug me;
Oldsmobile valve covers on backwards. Excessive ‘factory’ markings Part number tags left on NOS parts. ‘Caution Fan’ stickers on Camaro Undersize and oversized tires. Tailpipes that aren’t cut to factory , or using Pep Boys exhaust tips. Winter windshield wipers. Excessive chrome or polished aluminum W30 stripes on regular 442. Wrong rear sway bar on 64-72 Olds 442 Trim rings on spare wheel (Olds) Referring to it as a Four Forty Two Aftermarket trim rings Spray painted components Glossy engine compartment Alarm key in Fender unless it’s an original car. After market battery cables. Non factory oil filter. Tires other than what was offered by the factory ( day two exception) example Mad Dog Avenger G70-14 7000 in 3 inch raised letters. Other items, shocks, battery, worm clamps. |
Based on all the different pet peeves everyone has, can someone post the perfect show car that everyone likes and finds nothing wrong with????
I learned a valuable lesson when I was a young man running an international car club in the early 80's. We had a guy try to join the club with his El Camino that was not that nice and had a lot of the same trinket show items discussed here. Many members of the club made fun of him, his car and his trinkets. When he asked to join the club we took a vote and said no as he did not fit our "molds". He was quite hurt and moved on. Over the years of going to hundreds of car shows I saw just as many different cars with their own character as I saw people with the same and I realized what we may think is a piece of crap to us was possibly the best thing that person had ever owned. I quickly realized that one man's junk was another man's treasure and that we as car people should not judge peoples cars but rather enjoy them for what they are and allow those owners to be proud of what they own. The owner of the El Camino and how our club treated him literally haunted me for years when I matured enough to realize how I had acted. Out of the blue about three years ago he contacted me after seeing my Facebook page and just wanted to catch up. I confided in him how bad I had felt all these years. He said it really bothered him back then but had gotten over it and moved on but appreciated the fact that I not only kept it on my mind but also apologized to him. I guess the moral of the story and seeing all these comments and pictures of these cars is someone not only owns them but is proud of them. Who are we to say that they are junk or have stupid displays? I admit I have seen some pretty strange displays and cars but evidently the owner does not see it that way and is proud to bring it to a show and display it. I see many cars at shows today that make me laugh inside but now I actually take the time to talk to the owner, ask them to tell me about their car and maybe ask why they did what they did whether I think it is or not. Sometimes there are good stories behind these cars. I walk away proud that I could make someone feel good if not for just a day. Considering the circumstances of our society today maybe we should all think about doing that. Rant over. |
Things I love to see st car shows;
Rare parts on factory ‘race’ cars. Unusual colour combinations. Documented customer ordered cars. Cars with an interesting history. Anything original. Presenters who bring original owners. Original photos and paperwork. Original spares. Beautiful restorations that were difficult. ( unobtanium parts) Found original engines. I am basing my input on the types of shows I attend . I understand if I am attending a “cars and Coffee” type of show it’s inappropriate to judge why someone has done something. Good points Rick, let’s get our cars out ASAP. |
