Garnet red / white stripes, doesn’t get better than that IMO. That thing is going to be to nice for you to drive Rick / Annie. :)
|
congratulations on the great Yenko Chevelle find
wondering if you found a SW tachometer with it? and if it has the Yenko holes in the dash and firewall for the tach and sending unit? |

Yes, all there.
|
Congrats on your find, and can't wait to see it finished.
|
That picture of the tach and steering column speaks volumes. For probably 99% of us here, it's sooooooo difficult to imagine what circumstances could cause us to allow a Yenko Chevelle that we would have bought new (!!), drove for less than 20,000 miles in a year or so, got into a minor wreck, and then just park the car in conditions that eventually end up with it as shown in many of the pictures here. By some incredible good fortune it is still structurally sound and will be a beautiful vehicle once Rick & Annie get it finished.

Very Nice!!!!!!

Very nice...
Congrats!! Rich |
So happy for your both ......... what an amazing car and an amazing find! This is a very important car! Good for you, if we at Mascar can assist in any way, please let us know.
|
Very cool car. 19K miles in 1 year is a lot with a solid lifter big block. One does have to wonder why they didn't fix the car from the minor damage? There was also mention of their other car, a 70 Chevelle. Did they buy 2 new Chevelles in 2 years? Why was the disassembled 427 out of the 69? Not trying to pry with the questions but it's a very interesting story and history.
|
I have heard from one person who knew of the car and the owner and he believes the car was crashed in 1971 not 1970 so that would give more time for the mileage to add up. However, it was in a minor accident when a relative tried to jump a ditch with the car (I found both rockers to be slightly collapsed) so it was in at least 2 accidents. Remember, back in that era these cars were nothing more than modes of transportation and few people cared for them anything like what we do today.
If you knew the owner and his way of living you would understand the reasons for the disarray. In the garage were two disassembled cars, at least 8 disassembled engines, two completely disassembled and scattered motorcycles, etc. As can be seen by the photo in the trunk, that was just part of one complete motorcycle. No rhyme or reason, he just took everything apart and put nothing back together and scattered parts wherever they landed. The 70 Chevelle was bought years later. He also had several other cars at his lake property. None of which were drivable. |

Super excited to see this restoration thread progress:-)
“Once in a lifetime” find!! Ryan |
Great find, can't to see progress pics and the finished car. Barn finds like this are really cool and just goes to show that they are still out there. I live close to Randy Miller and got to see his Garnet Red 69 SYC Chevelle a lot when he owned, beautiful cars in Garnet Red. Isn't this 1 of 3 built in Garnet Red?

4-speed as per this previous photo.

Buckets, no console. Very nice.

It's sad that the car just sits all those years and nothing is done with it until he dies but now it will come back to life

69 Yenko Chevelle found
Way to go Rick, timing is everything, can't wait to see the resto process. Awesome photos. The Chevelle we have, was sold without a tach, no holes on the firewall for sender.

and oh what a hoarder he was! Not a fun weekend to remove the car but well worth the efforts. I understood after seeing the garage why the family is still searching for the paperwork.
|
"If ya take em apart....It's harder for someone to take em away from you!" Heard this line before...and in this case, it's certainly true. Look how much effort Rick put into buying and getting this one the right way. This is one way to make sure your Yenko stays put until YOU decide to part with it.
Congrats again on a awesome save! BIG :beers: |
Im psyched to see it restored...
i dont understand the part, where other people said they should have it not Rick...wtf is that about, last i heard, the guy with the cash and gets the car wins... i cant even tell people how many times ive bought cars, straight forward..i go there with money, inspect it, pay, and go home....deal done... |
I think the comment stems from the fact that this more or less just fell in my lap where some others have been trying for years. I guess it is not unlike the LS6 convert that I found and someone came in under me with the cash a week before I was going to get the car. Long story but I don't blame it on the buyer as much as I do the seller and I ended up with the restoration so at least I got to enjoy it. The best part on this Yenko deal was the owner called me, twice actually, I did not call him.
|
when i lived in Indiana, 30 miles from Louisville...i always heard rumors there was a Yenko chevelle around, and could never be bought.....cool it showed up here..Im envious
I pulled a 70 RWB T/A Javelin out of a garage in southern Illinois in the late 90s..when i first saw your pic..it reminded me of the shop where the Javelin was...just as bad, chicken poop everywhere...dog crap...coon crap everywhere...and a flooded garage floor...i almost passed..but i really wanted the car...BAD..kinda deal where ya wash for days and still stink.. it was a car that could never be bought..and i got it..i just had to pay for it..and the seller approached me..a stranger..because he was tired of locals making stupid offers..numbers car too... i know guys that miss cars, because they wait for the buyer to price it and they go back and forth and its kinda crazy in my mind..both are scared to make a move...stupidity in my book..make any offer and get dialog..then sort thru it and haggle, is my way.. |
Like I have always said.. If its meant to be, It will. Its funny how things just find there way. I could not be HAPPIER for Rick and Ann ! Just SAD that the orig owner had to sit on it ALL these years and not enjoy the financial outcome. At least his children will and finish the clean up that their father left behind..UGH.

WOW!! Beautiful Car Rick. Can't wait to see this one done... And the perfect color to boot, I can relate to restoring a car and not having to do a bunch of cutting out rot and welding in new patches. You guys most have enjoyed going through all of that shit looking for Chevelle parts, Hopefully all of the fasteners were in one box, But looking at that garage they were probably scattered everywhere. Mark . |
What a great find and wonderful story Rick. While I look forward to the restoration, I find that the story behind the family who owned it is just as interesting. Who lives like that? Would love to here more about the man and his collection of stuff as he aged over the years. My great uncle was just like that when he died years ago and we had to settle his estate.

Thanks to Facebook and reader Rodman Phillips I was able to determine what this decal was that I found on the cowl end. Turns out to be a speed shop from Louisville. Really cool to see what it looked like originally and that it was a local speed shop. Now all I have to do is find one or have this one reproduced.
|
Old speed shops had the coolest stickers! Its very cool someone recognized it!
|
Big Foot Harry Magers was the man in Louisville if you wanted to go fast and not broke.I spent a lot of time at his shop.Great guy
|
Oh, no one can forget Okolona George he started speed shop wars with his prices. He loved racing bought a brand new 73 Z2/8 made it a race car.He bought a new gremlin and made it a race car with a hank the crank destroked 400 in 1973.The good times.I love Louisville so much local history
|
What an awesome discovery!
Yes...I believe in Karma, so with that being said it is great to see that this car ended up exactly where it needs to be. Congrats Rick and Annie! Allow me to extend the invitation...MCACN 2019 Official Unveiling; Class of '69 Bay-Bee!! Bashton MCACN Managing Member www.mcacn.com |
The decal looks like it may be from one of the displays of decals that a guy sets up inside the LeConte center at the fall rod run. Can't remember his name, but he has a very large selection of decals he prints.
|
I found a gentleman with thousands of original decals and he had them. Just waiting to hear back. I will likely not put them back on the car but would be nice to have them on display with it.
