That clear looks great, :eek2: and you haven't cut and buffed yet, show off . What medium reducer 70 or 85 ?
Thanks Mike |
Wow! Praise from Caesar!!! Thanks Mike! I used 85. The temp in the shop these past few days has been hot enough. I want to try the clear you use next time. That'll be on the Trans Am or Phil's 68 GTO!:hmmm::laugh::eek2:
Later this week I'll be shooting the engine bay, then off to the Mustang parts place (there is two in town.....not good:wink:) for inner fender splash shield rubber so I can spray the sound deadener in the wheel wells, then it's a cutting and buffing time!!! Trying a new shirt throw DA with the 3M Perfect It polishes......I'll keep you posted! More to come... Cheers Dave |
Damn dude... I had to come out of hiding after hearing about these pics. No need for a gif on this one.. I had to make a normal post after seeing the paint on this Mustang. Seriously you are very talented. I'm jealous.

Dave,
I have a friend that owns a Black '68 Charger.....what do say we meet in the Spring at "Mission Dolores" or "Ghirardelli Square" in San Francisco and we can reenact a certain famous chase scene.....Let`s Do IT! If they lock us up over night....no worries....it will be worth it! Ashton can bail us out :) Note to self: Bring Black Driving Gloves and Black Rimmed Google Glasses :) Make certain the Hubcaps Stay ON! I have even a better scenario to play out when you finish the Black '78 Y82 Trans Am, Wink, Wink :) Dan |

That's a great compliment Darrell... since you're GIFless...I know you're sincere! I appreciate the feedback and compliments. Thanks so much!!!
...And Dan..... I'm scared now to start the Trans Am...:haha: Moving forward, it's engine bay time! I masked off what needed to be masked off with proper masking mask off material..:hmmm:... and proceeded to black out what needed to be blacked out with black out paint. I think that's about what I wanted to say:crazy: So, looking at my undercarriage and seeing survivor cars [same year... same plant] , I took my notes and laid down the funk with proper overspray and sloppy missed spots. Since the bays were painted from the top downward, the bottom of the frame rails, front crossmember, strut rod brackets, engine mounting perches.... all look black when viewed from the top yet show the red oxide underneath. I tried to replicate that and two factory markings I found as well. Once I get the fenders on, I'll the spray the sound deadener in the wells, transmission tunnel, and firewall/inner frame areas. More to come! Cheers Dave |
Wow! So nice....You do amazing work!
|
This is great! That car is very lucky to be owned by you. I'd love to have a big block 4 speed '67 or '68 GT.
|
You better add some long rectangular full frames to stiffen her up for those San Francisco streets :)
Very nice Dave :) Dan |
Beautiful work Dave! And that shop... DROOL
Dan |
Looks awesome. Great work(and lots of it)! Also, thanks for taking the time to share.
Jason |
Thanks guys! I appreciate all the feedback! It’s so much fun!!! Next week I’ll start the cutting and buffing of the body, then some reassembly. Dirty work is done!!!
Cheers Dave |

Ok, well...it ain't next week but I started to assemble the body which will make it easier to wetsand and polish. Starting to look like a car! You can see I reattached the body buck tag by the fender, and as I may have mentioned before, my tag is actually a Mercury trim tag. This was part of Ford's recycling process for a few months at the Dearborn plant. My car just happens to have one of those tags! Oh... and I found out that 610 is the second rotation number, and the body buck tag has the first one in the upper right hand corner. A neat thing to see! :cool2:
Now I just need to spend a day and blast a bunch of parts in the cabinet for reassembly. Anyone want to help? :dunno: Mikey? I'm looking in your direction!:worship: I pay good....well...goodly... whatever is half of the hourly rate charged by the proprietor, you get a percentage that's worth half of what the other half is. And while you're thinking of that.... I'm running to the bank! Mmmwwwashahaha.... cough... cough..... of sorry... there I go getting carried away again:grin: Cheers Dave |
Killer work, as usual. That Mercury tag is pretty crazy and it's hard to believe they did stuff like that.
|
Impressive - just like the Bee.

Let's see... back from MCACN.... back to work.... back to reality! But between all that stuff, time to get back on the Stangatang!
Some more front end parts, hood hinges, and shiney bolts installed. The wheel lip moldings getting fitted up and they fit surprisingly well. Once I get the hood on and the front sheet metal aligned, it'll come off the twirler and let the wetsanding games begin! And yes.... that's a run/sag/curtain in the clear on the fender in front of the wheel lip and above the marker light. That's for the hired help (me) to wetsand out. Stay tuned for a tutorial on how to fix fender and cowl dents after a freshly painted hood gets dropped on them, and how to blend paint after wetsanding through the clearcoat! :hmmm: See? Who needs reality TV when you have my threads to read! Cheers Dave |
Dave
are you restoring the car as a Bullitt clone or as from the factory? Just wondering why you are installing W/O trim? Paul |
Hey Paul,
Yeah.... factory restoration. Of course I do have the second set of wheels which are the TTDs.... well... you know.... for when I chase you! Cheers Dave |
It's about time. I was about to pass out from holding my breath! Glad to see you back on it again. It's beautiful. Keep the pics coming. Details are wonderful.

Breathe, Freddie....Breathe!!! It was all MCACN's fault! If you PM Bob and tell him to not run such a great show we want to take our cars to, I'd have more time to work on them! :dunno:
Today will be a montabulous occasion! The MuscleStang comes off the rotisserie! :3gears: Meanwhile, while moving stuff around the shop yesterday (actually, I was trying to find my dang ratchet that I JUST HAD IN MY HAND NOT FIVE MINUTES AGO!!!) I noticed a few markings on my transmission. Now that the body is done, the drivetrain is next so just think of all the paint blops, daubs, and runs to be found! :cool2: Cheers Dave |
Sell that fill plug to a Muncie guy and it'll just about pay for your rebuild kit on the trans. :santa:
|
I've got one of those T&C transmissions that's been sitting around my shop for about 10 years with all of the parts to rebuild it. There just never seems to be enough time to work on it. I've also got a C7ME block with all of the parts to assemble it. I wish I had a nice '67-'68 Mustang fast back or a '66 Fairlane GT to put them in.
How is the engine work going? Are you going to be able to save the original block? |
----Freddie,,,Theres a fairly affordable 66 Cyclone GT 4spd in the latest Hemmings. Said (I believe) solid car needing restoration......Bill S

In continuation of continuing, I continued with some more front end assembly. So when you are alone with nobody to help you, how does one mount up a freshly painted hood on a freshly painted car without getting fresh scratches in the fenders?:hmmm: Call two friends to help? Well, if your friends are anything like my friends, you abandon that whole route and do it yourself since you know there's probably a risk of more carnage if you had these "friends" help!
Luckily, I had an NOS Ford hood mounting brace handy. It's a rare item, seldom seen, and doubles for a Majorette baton should the need arise after assembly! Original numbers block is saved, Freddie. And.... have another 68 390 out of a GT that's a little later date coded than mine as a spare. Deciding which way I want to build the engine. The intake and heads on a 390 Ford were manufactured from the same foundary that made the anchors for the Mauritania, and I think shot-peened aluminum to look like cast iron is the way to go. Still deciding...... Cheers Dave |
I love me some Highland Green :)

I love it. Keep it coming.

Funny thing about that GIF....McQueen is actually in Reverse and is backing up in that scene, not going forward! So a little creative editing! And yep...Bullitt wasn't a Traction Lock.... open rear!
Another intertesting thing to note, that engine stand in Mikey's garage picture was photo shopped in. Under that crude cut- in is the Ohio clan with one hand on the hood and another holding their drinks!! I'm telling ya...... it's true!!:naughty: Cheers Dave |
Ha! LOL :)

Oh, you laugh Dan, but I suspect you're the one holding that camera! :smirk: Or maybe it's Sam....:dunno:
Moving forward with cleaning up the rest of the parts, I came across a few date coded stamps on the pedal assembly. Nobody will ever see them since they face upwards, but still....I know they're there (English 101 lesson: there..and..they're... used correctly in this sentence..sound the same, yet both mean something different..... it's all about phonetics here at Yenko.net:thumbsdown:) so I did some strategic blasting in the cabinet to keep them. Decreasing the transmission uncovered several more. It's really hard to believe markings this large were on the parts originally! Stay tuned for more finds.....like my ratchet that's still missing!!:frown: Cheers Dave |
Rachet?!? Maybe it's lost in all the blankets and such when you were bolting on the hood ... just sayin' ... TAZ :dunno::dunno:

Been doing some detective work while feverishly blasting parts! I lose my big shop here within the week, relocating to a smaller, rental one, in preparations for the move next year to the new crib in the backyard! With that, I lose my beloved paint booth, air compressor, and with that.... blasting cabinet. So I'm blasting all the parts I need to and will refinish them in the new place. My heater box exploded on the stairs, so I figured I'd blast all those parts. Meanwhile, packing and packing....and I found my ratchet!
Motor mount markings, wiper motor markings, date code on the Jack matches my build [jack date coding started in 1967, interestingly enough], and now I'm shipping out the radiator to Bob at Glen Ray who did flawless work on my Super Bee's, so I think he can handle a tiny Mustang radiator! :hmmm: I've gathered up the engine parts and will be dropping all that off at the builder and the transmission heads to a local toploader specialist as well. Based on all of this stuff, I should be on the road in about.... oh....4 or 5 days from now. :rolleyes2: I'm going to send the carburetor to Eric. Then I'm off to play the lottery so I can pay for all of this stuff! I'm setting up a gofundme account called "TheYenkoSuperDuperStangatang". Donate what you can!:no::thumbsdown: Out in the sun in a day or so when I move it! More to come! Cheers :beers: Dave |
Personalized plate:
STANGATANG :-) Is it pronounced st-ang-a-tang, or st-ang-a-tan? Ryan W. |
----Feel your pain as I couldn't do without my glass beading box. Even do a lot of around the house stuff with it.....Bill S
|
as always....so cool to read your posts, Dave! :)
|
Let me expand on that, Ryan. According to the Book of Super Dave, the definition is as follows directly from my Commodore 64 Processing brain:thumbsdown: : Stangatang: n {stang~uh~tang} 1. A classic car that is based on a Mustang that seems to devour money at a rate equal to an Orangutan eating bananas. :dunno::grin::3gears:
All parts are blasted, and all boxes packed. Time to move, but feat not! Updates will be forthcoming in the temporary new digs!!!!:grin::grin: Cheers Dave |
Dave, I expect you to be driving that 67 Stang by next week at this time...
LOL... Rich |
