Definitely a great day for you and Mia.
She makes the car, and we'll have to get a pic of her in the driver's seat after it's that far along.

I love the way you guys make the repairs:-)

If you have any snapped off body mount bolts I would love to know how to fix this issue......

Re: Silver 69 Chevelle SS396 Post Sedan L78

Yes, had a couple body mount bolts snap, or have to be cut off.
If you look closely in the last picture above, you'll see a small square metal tab sticking up on the raised area. We had to cut that on 3 sides to get at the caged nut, then cut the cage, remove the nut with busted bolt, heat the nut cherry-hot, then removed the broken bolt. Put the nut back in the cage after cleaning the threads, and weld the cage shut again.
Other methods may work depending on if the nut spins in the cage or not.

Your absolutely right that's why my black 69 is not finished yet I'm not putting anything else on it. Just picked up the last piece like a week ago. The front bumper filler/valance! My wife was actually pissed because she wants it done so I can move on to my other 69 but I told no Jap metal.

I have heard about it but not seen it till now..

Can you grab a few action shots?

I am nervous to cut into my nice floor to do this so I want to make sure I am heading down the right road:-)

I have 2 or three at the back especially:-( I guess I cut into the trunk to fix them:-(

I have one where the area is rusty so I am able to fix it from the bottom...... (About a 3 inch rusty area around one mount so I need to fix it.

Sorry to reply all about me on your thread, but I see this stuff and absolutely have to know for myself:-)

Re: Silver 69 Chevelle SS396 Post Sedan L78

You might try drilling a small hole in the floor above the rusted nuts, and squirting some PB Blaster in a few days before you try loosening. If there is enough bolt left, weld a nut onto it instead of using vise grips.

Re: Silver 69 Chevelle SS396 Post Sedan L78

Should have the body back on the frame by Saturday, then bring it home for some mechanical fixes, then drive the wheels off it this year.
Had several repairs to make where old ladder bar mounts had been, and a crack at a rear body mount that was badly repaired by someone else.
Speaking of wheels, plans are to put some different ones with new tires, as the current set doesn't do the car justice.

Sure Just make sure your tire of choice is a Black Wall.

Are those 14" or 15" ?

They're 15 X 7. Thinking of a 235/60/15 tire size all around. Do you think I'll have any tire-rub problems with that size?

Postsedan 02-09-2016 10:59 PM

Re: Silver 69 Chevelle SS396 Post Sedan L78

235 is a max front tire with 15's....but greatly depends on the front wheel backspace. I have had 235's rub slightly on the lower front fender lower lip....but I believe that was with 15x8 front wheel.

Back in the 1980s we ran 235/60R15 Eagle STs on 71-72 Chevelle SS steel 5-spoke 15x7 wheels (all 4 corners) on a stock ride height '69 Chevelle. They fit with plenty of room and never rubbed anywhere on a daily driven car. I think those Chevelle / Z28 15x7s had 4.25" backspace, but I am not 100% sure. Hope this helps.

Checked the wheels and they are 3 3/4 backspace, so maybe I will have to have a tire mounted to do a physical check for clearance.

Car is being readied for some touch up work on the roof where the clear-coat had peeled, so have to paint that area, then clear the whole roof and part of both quarters.
