Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe

So you have both keys and neither works @ the glovebox?
Lube, love, tickle and keep retrying over the next bit also look up underneath and behind w/ a good light and see if any chance you can disassemble enough to open it from the inside?
If the Dealer paperwork has the key code, maybe you can get a new one cut to try also ask George @ GM Canada Vintage specifically to include it w/ your package info as the code's listed on the microfish archive page he's gleaning the info from.
What's left of the original Y73 Hood Stripes Al tried not to get and did he have them painted over when new also were the W31 decals he gave you some he had bought or any possibility they were shipped loose?
Great stuff, keep rockin' Ryan!

Valentines was the day before we bought this W-31 thank you very much!!!!!!

"Lube, love, tickle and keep retrying over the next bit also look up underneath and behind" I assume any decent comments would be moderated out so I will leave this alone:-)

Stupid question......I assumed the glove box uses the round trunk key....never tried the square ignition key......

Yes I have already specifically asked George for the shipper documentation including key code data (I know this is not normal so I asked if he is able to show me only my cars data)

The Stagers are sorting and finding any "Fossil Photos" from back in the day so I can get scans to further document the history of my new baby. They will show if the W31 decals were on the car or not. But I will ask Al either way.

The decal would have been on the fenders when the car was delivered to the dealer.
I have heard of folks taking them off to be a little more inconspicuous.

Good to see the Ziebart plugs, It may have saved this car from ravages of Ontario salt. Was the car ever fully repainted?

Hi Paul

Al gave me the receipts for Ziebart and he only drove it one winter, then four summers:-)

He said he had it painted, I didn't ask if it was partial or fully painted? I think all painted, I want to find out if it was lacquer or BC/CC.

I may have some NOS W-31 decals. I'll have a look. When I was a GM partsman, I ordered emblems and decals every paycheque just to have......
I put a short stick in my 4 spd car too for faster shifts.

Ram Rod was a '68 thing but still on the W31 air cleaner only for '69.
And yep, Ryan no doubt the man for the car!
He tried fighting it at first but all just too cool to say no...now he's an Oldsmobile man.

Ram Rod is Oldsmobiles engine name sake....kind of like the "Rocket" The F85 was the Base Model - The Cutlass "S" was a set up.
The F85`s had the Bench Seat, Rubber Mat, non-hidden wipers....Kurt gets it now. The light bulb - just came on

Kurt, remember "El Malo" at last years Barn Find....that is an F85

I fully understand the "goodness" here guys!!!

Every muscle car magazine I have opened since I was 12 has some story like this in it...........well the stories do happen!!

Now I am going to get all emotional, tune out if you wish.........as was approaching turning 40 I decided to actually get involved in the passion/hobby/obsession that has gripped me since I can remember (I used to take Hot Rod magazine on our family vacations and read it over and over again)I set up a trip to PSMCDR in 2011 and my heart was opened up, I met guys like Gary Place and Rich Corsello, and even got to say hi a few times to COPOPETE RIP. One think has led to another, I have found great websites like sYc and met great people like Dan and all-a-y'all, and have started attending events in Canada, Illinois, New York, Ohio, and Michigan. And a week ago I would have said my crown jewel of Muscle car awesomeness was our L89 Display at MCACN 2014.........now PeteLeathersac calls and again my perception of how cool being a car guy can be gets blown out of the water. The moral of the story is don't be a super shy guy like me up to a few years ago, get out there and talk to similar minded people and enjoy our hobby every single day!!!

I am stepping off the emotional roller coaster now feel free to tune back in to the detailed W31 story...

LOL. Not to highjack your thread...You'd be amazed where you can find usable stuff in the plumbing aisle. I converted the airbox on my 6.5 diesel to the high flow K-47 optional unit but couldn't locate the main 90 degree air intake duct has been unavailable for years and very fragile if you can find an old one. I went to the plumbing aisle in the local Home Depot and found a 90 degree black ABS sewer duct that fit and flowed batter than the original crimped duct. It's not an original duct but now it flows much better than an actual K47!

The unobtainable busted up factory duct piece:
