Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
The 'bullet is a great resource but you gotta have a thick skin. Those guys can be brutal but I've read some of the funniest stuff in my life over there.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I read 7 pages into the Yellow Bullet thread and could not handle anymore. Here is a link for those who are more patient that I. Lots of trash talking and ignorance with little info:

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Yeah, they do get pretty rough over there, but I do have a guy that is talking to me about the car I'm wanting info on.
Here's one of his PM's to me. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Do you remember the car being blue at that time, or yellow, or maybe even red, as it was all those colors after the original black?</div></div> <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">It was black from the late 70's (as far back as I can remember) until early 90's. I don't know his real full name, My father is pretty ill at this time and won't remember. He, nor did anyone else mention him selling it. I talk to Cowboy a month before he passed, he was always at the track, and he talk about working on it, changing this and changing that. It was change to an automatic in the 80's because he couldn't get the stick to launch correctly. I remember that pretty well, due to it being the only track rental I ever seen at Detroit Dragway in the early 80's. Cowboy and Fast Phil knew the owners pretty good and they let them test when ever they wanted.. Multiple colors was right up his ally being he was just a big old country boy having fun. What ever color his flat bed truck was the car soon followed. Hope this helps Ahhhh, the memories... </div></div> |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
The guys responding the way they do, to person they dont even know, should be steralized and their mommas punched in the mouth.
They were never tought the phrase "if you dont have anything nice to say... |

Hey guys, for the record, don't mind that racer 140 asswipe from YB. Hes from NJ and has literally been banned from almost every website he has ever posted on. You won't ever see him talking like that ever, to anyone, unless its online. To be honest, he looks rather lonely everywhere he goes.... wonder why?

Good policy. Anyone who responds back just feeds the troll. I had that guy blocked on another forum. all he did was post the same garbage over and over. you can always tell the type by the mile long signature and huge picture or GIF at the bottom of their post. LOOK AT ME!!! |
Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I sure wish I had kept my L78 Post.

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Ken, your close,...very close on your guess of BC , but the L78 post car ended up in Calgary, Alberta. Still driving it, hav'nt done the engine bay yet, but got it back to mostly back to how it left the factory, with the correct door panels, bench seat back in and all re-covered correctly, carpet out and vinyl flooring put in ( repo flooring, not original, but still hunting).... That car sure gets a lot of interest when it's out

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
I have a lead on who "Cowboy" was. Apparently he bought the car in the late 70's and has passed away now.
The same guy that gave me that lead knows the guy that Cowboy bought it from, and will be talking with him soon. I don't know if he will be the original owner or not, but it still will help get me closer to finding the early history of this car. Also it is believed that that guy will have old pics of the car. I sure hope so. Stay tuned. |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Little by little a story is emerging from a guy that knew one of the long-time owners of this car, "Cowboy".
Here is one of the tidbits he recently told me. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I was there when he was painting the car the color is now, cowboy painted it him self in a two car garage off John R and Oakland in Detroit. He cut the hood and had a dual snorkel air cleaner on it with hoses running down to the headlights. He used to call it the robot from the show lost in space because when it was running the motor would shake and it looked like when the robot would say "Danger, Danger" he used to joke and say that the car was telling all of us other racers danger was coming. LOL </div></div> |

Re: Black L78 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan Found
Man am I depressed. I looked at this car a few years ago when I was looking for a cheap drag car. I was so intent on finding a drag car I didn't pay much attention to what the car actually was. It's been on the Michigan craigslist for a while this time. Good catch guys. For you guys to realize what it was from pics and I didn't catch it in person means I need to pay more attention. Good luck with it!!

For what ever reason when my eyes opened this morning this car was on my mind. Anymore progress on this beauty? |
