Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Yesterday they had a guy come in and letter the passenger side to match the driver's side.

Jerry and Rip will have the Chevelle down to the Bloomington Gold Survivor Show in St. Charles, IL tomorrow having it judged.

Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Looks great. Are those Super Comp headers? New or vintage?
|
Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
They are the original ones that Jerry used back in the day.
Kurt EDIT: I guess I should say "I believe" they are originals. Jerry kept almost everything for that car. EDIT: Rip just told me that they are vintage headers. |
Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Wow, the car is coming together nicely. Engine bay is looking real old school race-ready! What brand and size ar those rear slicks? Wheel offset? I noticed the oversized pulley for the alternator. Is that to reduce draw from the engine?

Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Here are some pictures of Jerry's car at a dragstrip. It's hooking......that's for sure.

Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Sam, I'm not sure what size the tire/rims are. The bigger pulley on the alternator was to keep it from spinning too fast at high RPM's. They don't charge real good at idle from what I've been told though.

Dan, the paint used on Jerry's motor was Seymour Paint. Rip wasn't real happy with it but it's all he had at the time. He said he usually uses with Bill Hirsch paint. Kurt |

Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Boomer just sent me these pictures.
They finished the car today and it's ready for Bloomington tomorrow. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/P1080734.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/P1080729.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/P1080731.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/P1080732.jpg |
Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
It's not the best picture but here is Jerry behind the wheel of his Chevelle after sitting in his garage since 1975. He said it felt like a new car.

Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
So cool, I would have loved to have stayed for the Survivor on Sunday just for this car.

Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Awesome stuff.
Any details on the engine build and what it made on the dyno? |
Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Eric, the motor was built to stock specs except for the intake. Jerry even had his original camshaft.
They got 410hp on the dyno. Kurt |
Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Is that the set up that he raced back in the day (pre-tubbing) and he was able to yank the fronts with that?
|
Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Sam, I will ask Jerry but AFAIK, he had a different cam, distributor, and taller gears. I posted a picture of the cam specs that he had in the car at one time on a earlier post. I'm at work so I can't see it to tell you what the spec were.
Kurt P.S. TLC Restorations (Bob Rippberger) along with Jerry will be showing this car at the MCACN show this November. |
Re: 1969 Chevelle L78 Monaco Orange
Thanks Kurt. Glad to hear it will be at MCACN this fall!

Sam, I was at a car show yesterday with Jerry. He said he the car had a Crane Cam (621/646), Edelbrock TR-2 intake, headers and, here's the kicker, 5.36 gears. Here are a couple of pictures of our cars at the car show. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/P1080858.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/P1080889.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/P1080861.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/P1080887.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/P1080888.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/P1080881.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/P1080882.jpg |
