Re: Briggs Chevelle Sells for $1,150,000
Funny you should say that Jerry! I was watching the auction and watching Chip talking to the bidder and thought he was telling him how much to bid and then I got a phone call an hour later from someone telling me it was his car!! Did I get something wrong? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Don't know as there was too much chaos up on the stage and I couldn't tell what was going on.

Re: Briggs Chevelle Sells for $1,150,000
Here's a short explanation. Ray Allen started restoring the car years ago when race cars didn't bring the dollars we are seeing today.
Chip Gerst bought the car only a few months ago as a 3/4 done original type restoration. He hardly had the time to finish the car as you saw it let alone researching all the race parts and race modifications that would be needed to make it an all out race car. I believe the Briggs Chevrolet and T/K lettering along with Cragar wheels brought back lots of memories of its racing days for many of us. The car did well at BJ because it is the most famous LS6 Chevelle in NHRA History. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |

I always thought Red Alert was more famous (at least in name and not necessarily credits). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Rick |
Re: Briggs Chevelle Sells for $1,150,000
Red Alert was the most famous due to the marketing ....I ruined quite a few of those models myself...that Briggs car was a helluva cool car though and had a record that will stay with the car forever.

Re: Briggs Chevelle Sells for $1,150,000
Without a doubt, the Ray Allen Car is the most famous LS6 car in the country. I saw this car run at Englishtown, Maple Grove and Cecil County. It was also the fastest and won more NHRA national events than any 454 Chevelle. How many other LS6 Chevelles won the NHRA World Finals and US Nationals?

Interesting topic.. with that said....
what would a documented Buick GS Stage 1 that won the World Finals, Pomona Winternationals, US Nationals, and every single race at every single event it competed in in an NHRA calender, be worth ??? car competed in C/SA, Stock, and Pure Stock. Won EVERY class at EVERY event. yes, I have the car, AND documented NHRA proof... Sponsored by Cragar/Pennzoil/M&H/Motorwheel yada,yada... Just curious... Jim |
Re: Briggs Chevelle Sells for $1,150,000
I mananged to pick up a really neat article from '71 on the Truppi-Kling Chevelle...that was discarded after the sale on stage.I forget which magazine it's from but it goes into detail on how they turned this car into the world beater that it was.
I though Jim's Chevelle would have broken the bank but obviously the buyers picked race history over a rare, restored 1 of 1 fantastic example. You did well Jim but I thought you'd do more... I'd be curious to see what the Buick GS Stage 1 would do as well, especially with as much race history as that. I grew up practically living at Mid-County Buick in Brooklyn,NY where my dad worked.I would go to work with him in the summertime and just sit and play in all the '65-'69 Buick GS cars.I have always had a soft spot for BB Buicks! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |

Did anyone notice the Soxs and Martin car went for i think it was $300k and yet the Drag hemi at russo steel got 2 mill. Granted the russo one was actually used in the 60's where as the BJ one was only driven recently by ronnie.

Car sounded terrific too. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2/DSC03933.jpg |
