UPDATE: I called the state police and asked them about the VIN. They said that the VIN on the door is good and clear but the original VIN is not found in the western states. I then read on the internet that the FBI keeps track of all stolen vehicle VINs. I called them and they said since I was a private person that they couldn't tell me anything. I told him that I think my car may be stolen because there are multiple VINs on and after telling me that it is a felony if the car is crossing a state line, he said that I can call my local FBI office. So I did that, again that FBI office said there wasn't anything that they could do other than call my local police.

What the H&LL, you can't even turn yourself in around here. Anyway, I am going to call my local licensing office and see if they can trace the VIN. Other than that I don't know what to do.

What VIN is on the title you have for it? If it's the 6 cyl VIN then you might have a hard time trying to get the original SS350 V8 VIN put back on the car. Most states will issue a new state assigned VIN which doesn't help truly identify the car and it might not make the situation any better for you. Some states want a tracing of the VIN tag to issue a corrected title so you would need the correct VIN tag on the car and be able to do a tracing of it. It could be an old drag car that never got title to begine with so somebody grabbed a beaten up 6 cyl car and transferred the tag and title to sell it.

I finally got the info on the VIN. The 6-cylinder VIN is registered in Oregon and is current on the car. There is no trace of the V8 VIN at all. Interesting. I go through cars so much that I have regretted some that I have sold, so now this one is here to stay. I am not going to sell an original RS/SS car for a 6-cylinder price and no one is going to pay an RS/SS price for a 6-cylinder VIN car. So I am actually glad this happened. The car is not stolen and it will now be my new Yenko clone.

Axle code will also confirm what you've found so far. The axle code is located on the passenger side axle tube. http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers

As for turning it in to a Yenko clone, I think you are using the wrong car. If it was an original 6 cylinder car I could see that but using a true RS/SS to make a clone in my mind is wrong. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

I agree with using a factory RS/SS and I actually called a friend of mine who deals in Camaros to see if he has a more together '67 to trade for this one so I don't hack up a real car but he didn't have anything. So that is what has to happen. I don't like small block cars and with the SS-350 prices only being in the $20,000 range it isn't worth building something that I don't want.

I will check the rear axle number later tonight. I know it is a 12 bolt but other than that I don't know.

The state of california will issue a vin. tag with the cars hidden vin#. I would lose the incorrect tag. Then get a title through dmv or title service.

I have been looking on ebay and they are only getting $20-25K. Mine is non-numbers matching so probably less.

I tried to find #'s on the rear end to no luck. The rear end is a 12 bolt with single leafs on both sides.
