Unfortunately the COUGAR was a Luxury Mustang in disguise and never found a plce to fit in. You had to go to a Lincoln/Mercury Dealership to buy one. The Car dealership world was much different back then. Much more tight shirt snobbish folks there who could not be bothered pushing a performance vehicle. They were trained to sell to the Luxury and Comfort crowd. By the time the Cougar came out in 67, FORD was 3 years away from pulling the plug on all Factory racing and High Performance development. The Eliminator was the Coolest Performance Cougar. They had only about 167 with Boss 302 Engines. SCJ 428 Engines have plenty of Torque. But they are pricey to fix when broken. But like the other guys that have already posted said, They just do not have the monster following like other FORD counterparts. Hence the expensive parts and clannish owners. tends to keep anybody from developing interest in them which in turn will be there downfall valuewise. I saw Craig Jackson try to do a segment on the X-R7 as an "Up and Coming Sleeper" car to aquire. it must have been a friends car or maybe even one he picked up because they have never ever hit their potential. almost like the EDSEL......

what ever happened to the 2 Boss 429 Cougars built? they were both built for drag racing and i have seen a photo of the "Fast Eddie" Schartman car. i have heard they are both destroyed. any truth to that?

Last I had read parts of one had been found, basically shock tower parts that contained part of the serial number.
