So why didn't these cars do what the auction house thought they would do ?
|
They were all three way under the money. I wouldn't sell my black z for less than $120k, and it can't hold a candle to one of Mark's unrestored survivors.
Maybe the word is out that Mecum does not vet the cars and BJ does vet them. That COULD lead to a conclusion that only the BJ cars can be trusted. Still, one would think Mark's cars would speak for themselves. Gotta say i was quite surprised to see some of the prices. |
There were good offers for those cars before they decided to go the auction route. One car had an offer north of 200k, but the family decided to roll the dice. In fact, there was at least one fantastic offer for everything. Mecum is the premier musclecar auction, and had great results in Kissimmee. Most cars are inspected at the event by hired experts.

Also as a seller at Mecum if you lie about #'s etc the buyer has rights and can notify Mecum. As a seller you are liable and Mecum turns it over to legal.

If there were better offers on the cars why not let the reserve not met and move them to those people after the auction? For me personally I would have been all over the lemans car at that price but after seeing the estimates mecum listed I made the assumption they were gonna get that kind of money so I moved on to something else.

I witnessed Marks and his wife having an offer over a million for all of the cars and parts. I hope in the long run he was able to surpass that offer….
