Were the rally wheels still on it at that point? The angle makes it hard to tell. Very cool photo.

Fronts were grey center ET five spokes. At some point the rears became 15x10 steelies with slicks out past the quarters a couple inches.

I remember Joel offering up the rallys for something like $75.

There's a red RS '67 Z that was turned into a drag car around 1972. It's still around. It was also from Craig's Chevrolet in Edmond, OK and the serial number of that car and your engine are less than 100 apart. Both are 03B Norwood cars

The Z and the Chevelle were on the edge of streetable, as were all the fastest cars at that time. Note that the Chevelle is hooked to the El Camino by a tow bar.

We all had a DD of some sort. Joel had a 327 4 speed '65 El Camino as a DD.
The 302 had been massaged and balanced using an off road Z-28 cam IIRC. Ladder bars and 5.38 gears.

I have 4.10s in my Z. I have driven a 68 Z with 4.56 screw. Don't know that 5.38 gears are even on the "edge". Might be over the top.

5.38 Gears!!!!! Holy cow that thing had to perform like it was shot out of a cannon from stop light to stop light!!
I love it!!
As many have said, such a cool story and thanks Bill for such cool pics of this special car from back in the day.

I sold a F85 drag car to Dan Reimer on this site - IIRC it had 5.13 gears. I would have to make the 1-2 shift before I made it out of my driveway.
