Black with white stripes happens to be my favorite color combo on a 70 Chevelle so I'm in the stripes stay camp. Now if you could get them off and still keep the original black lacquer from the factory, I might feel different.

No. If $2500 is what is holding up a potential sale then potential buyers are dumb in my opinion. What I’d do is present this OPTION to buyers. Put it in the classified ad.

If buyer wants the stripes removed etc. You will do this upon a deal being secured. and before new owner takes delivery. I’d not do it in the hopes that all of a sudden NOW buyers will come knocking. I don’t think it will make a difference in sale.

I can’t see the rear deck,but didn’t the stripe package include front and rear stripes. If that is the case then it’s kinda a half assed attempt to begin with. Since originality is a rare and precious aspect in the hobby, and you have access to a painter who can do it right, then go for it.

I am of the same opinion as Mike in post #32 and only remove them if the buyer wanted it done.

If it were mine and I was keeping the car, I'd remove the stripes. Otherwise, I'd leave it up to the next owner to decide. However, if you feel the stripes are holding back the sale, it might be better to remove them, assuming the cost is recoverable.

Voting to leave them for the following reasons, most of which have already been mentioned:

1. New owner may prefer stripes.
2. Assuming black paint is all in good condition; I would be afraid of causing some damage to the underlying black paint. I realize they can be slowly wet sanded off using a lot of care, and maybe there won't be any damage.
3. The term "spot in" the black paint really scares me. There is no other color that looks as good when done right and looks bad when there are flaws. I can't see modern lacquer blending will with 50+ year old lacquer and looking perfect under the lights.

Let the next guy make the decision.

As much as I would prefer to see "this" car without stripes, I just think there is too much at stake to attempt messing with it !

Leave the stripes alone and just paint the entire car white. :)

For $2,500 I would have Chris fix it.
