Re: ZL-1 #27 IS FOR SALE ON EBAY

I can't anything new to what's been repeated several times before.

I cant remember correct last name of man who I gave damaged original
#27 body to with TRIM TAG in place.

Don't know facts as to what happened to born with #27 engine block.
Just heard that Foster Bros Machine (Seattle area) was involved ???

Heard small talk this weekend that a former owner in WA state of the C/SM race car
that I sold having the #27 VIN tag (now affixed to the ZL-1 recreation)
may be buying the car back. I don't have clue why he would want it ?????

Maybe he knows where the body is.

I apologize for not being able to state my mind more clearly....

I do not know how or where to communicate with the man who I gave
#27 body to.......and thinking about it, what good would it do anyway
as the VIN tag and the born with #27 power train are all gone and
most other pieces are on the (multi colored C/SM race car...NOW Red)
the "other" last race car I built.......

Not my intent to keep beating this drum.......I just want the facts
to be clear on my "15 minutes of fame"

The orig. body might still have the hidden vins. If I had that body I would be contacting whoever had the body with the vin tag. Put the vin tag back on the body and you have as much as many of the ZL1's.

The original body, or what may be left of it, with the hidden / stamped VINs will generally override a body with a riveted public VIN taken from the original car.

Love to hear details of any cases like this that have happened!

SAAC has had many test cases on this subject. More then a few Cobras have been ripped apart in accidents over the years. Frankly, some cases have been decided in favor of the VIN tag car and some case have been decided in favor of the chassis stamped car. Invariably, the "continuous history car" (CHC) prevails. This article in Shelby American magazine a few years ago gives a great rationale. Should generate some good discussion.

A good friend of mine provided expert testimony in a Cobra case. The determinant factor was establishing continuous title trail. To put it simply - if you own a car and wreck it badly. When you make repairs to YOUR car and put it back on the road, should someone who later finds discarded portions be able to trump the ownership of YOUR car? Of course, the answer is no. Now, if you sell the repaired car - should someone who finds discarded portions be able to trump the new owner's ownership? In my friend's actual case - the answer was no. The car configuration that had continuous ownership prevailed.

It happened on a '69 Yenko Camaro - car was stolen, VIN plate removed, involved in a robbery, impounded and returned to owner. Later, another car shows up with the VIN plate - also claiming to be the same Yenko. Years later, both cars are in PA, the fake goes up for sale, we notice, real car owner (CHC per Bergy) calls State Police, they reopen the case, rather quickly - the VIN plate from fake car is removed by police and returned to CHC. Score one for the good guys! Lawsuits began.....
