Re: Gobi Yenko Deuce finds its way to EBaY

As for the value - it is hugely dependant upon knowing if the trans matches the vin tag and if the rear is in the car. Without these pieces in the car - the car has probably already reached the full value. The car appears to have been completely disassembled and put back together at one time. Note the body color painted underside - maybe I am wrong but I think this should be black and not fully painted to match the body color. As well, the bumper valance has been painted incorrectly to match the body color as well. Unless the current owner has removed the air cleaner for display - it would appear that this car has been setting a long time open to the elements.

This will be a great project from someone - I spoke to the owner and he is a great guy representing the bank that repossesed the car.

You are correct Ed. I think it's irresponsible on the sellers part to not state if both the rear, and trans are original to the car. Almost like they want you to bid it up, (roll the dice) to see if they are there. Your bad if they're not.
Bidding on a "maybe they're there" just don't cut it. Not when it's easy to just look.
It's a cool car with good paper. I'd love to have it. It is what it is. But not listing all the assets, or lack of them is wrong. I'm done venting now......for a little while.

I am confused on a couple of observations because I do not know enough about these cars. It was noticed that the car has a small block trans cross member but with the car being built with an LT-1 350 from the factory what cross member should it have? I thought if a Nova came with a radio in 1970 the antenna would be mounted in the windshield. Was a fender mounted antenna ever offered in 1970? Is just the dash gauge panel from a later model Nova or has the whole dash carrier assembly been replaced?

Non original drivetrain sounds like a plus to me...that way the buyer won't feel guilty when he builds it for Pure Stock! 12.50s or bust!

The Deuces came with a BB crossmember, not sure why but we think its a carryover from the '69 COPO 9737 which was BB based. The '70 Deuces all have AM Radios w/ windshield antenna's, I think even the FM cars got 'em - but got ground straps. Can't tell if the speedo unit is from '72 or just the bezel.

The car looks like it indeed had its frame off at some point in order to get the gobi bottom treatment, not a huge deal, but is another indicator that the car is more likely a 104k mile car. I noticed the tach wires go to the center of underside of the hood, but the tach appears to be mounted in the correct location - just made me curious.

I asked the seller on Monday to post pics of the trans/rear, and told him exactly where/how to do it. The car is easily accessible as is the lift. Ed is correct, I don't know that I've ever seen but one CBW rear found loose in the market, so they are all but unobtainable - they are also rarely missing from Deuces, but until we know this car very well may stall.

That's very true. And not a bad idea. I guess unless the owner verifies that it has the CBW, and original trans, we should assume it doesn't. Otherwiswe I'd certainly think it would be to his advantage to post that it/they are there. Whoever is representing this car through the bank has not done his due dilligence to try to get the best return on the auction.
Or, by being silent, slightly deceptive. It's the difference between 40, and maybe 60+.
I think if I bought it, I'd have to paint it blk with wht stripes. Big smile.

Thank you Marlin. I was one of the bidders but to be honest I would like to to see pictures of hidden VINS in addition to the drivetrain numbers and I am concerned about any major damage the car may have seen in it's past. Still a neat car but it would be better with some answers.

Paint it Shadow Gray with Black Stripes and I'll take it! (That's what I wanted back in 1970.)

I don't think I'm too far away from the car.
If the seller is obliging, and someone wants me to go get a closer look and take pix of it for them, contact me at REDL78@Junodotcom or call me at home at 630-654-three five 0 nine.

I think if you look close at the underneath it is painted white. alot of street racers did this back in the day as they believed it kept the heat down and they ran faster.
