chrome on the 1/4s? is this a 500 cloned to an R/T?..i cant remember R/Ts having the chrome...but then again..i'm not well versed in those

A while ago I posted a photo of a war plane like this one which had the stripes on the wings and someone responded as to their significance. I forgot what it was

D-Day Invasion stripes. Used for easy visual identification of allied aircraft during the invasion of Europe which understandably was a crazy hectic period.

Invasion strips. So allied forces could easily recognize friendly's . Even used on cargo planes.

That is Crazy Horse based out of Stallion 51 in Kissimmee, FL. She is a dual seat, dual control TF-51. They offer rides and/or training flights and is currently on my bucket list but until I make a ton of side money I will have to pass on that for a while. My understanding is that it is a two day training affair. 1st day is all desk time training while the next is more in the seat and you do the majority of the flying. The pilot I talked to told me that non pilots normally do better than seasoned small engine general aviation pilots do. If I recall, it was about $4500 for the two day training flight. I spent $400 in 1988 to fly in a Mustang for 45 minutes and it was something I will never forget so $4500 and be at the controls for 3 hours will be the flight of a lifetime. I also need to do a lot of physical training before I can handle that.....

Basically, the standard orders to all military personnel were: If you don't see any stripes = BLOW IT OUT OF THE SKY!

As I was walking up to my assigned aircraft when I was overseas there just happen to be one of these sitting, just idling, on the runway very early in the morning. I just stood there in amazement since most don't get close to this aircraft, and I was maybe 50 yards away. The after burners lit, and the blue cones and rings just lit the area right up, and shook the holy 'F' out of my guts. 15 to 20 seconds later it was rolling, went straight up, and completely disappeared. There was a TR-1 there too I saw on another occasion, but not as spectacular as the SR taking off. Awesome.

Wow! Seeing an SR that close up was an amazing thrill.

The John Atzbach collection of rare Mustangs will cross the block today - all at no reserve.

Right now they are up to F104 so I am guessing in about an hour or so they will begin their trip to new collections.
