The three runs are averaged and cars ranked on that value, with an overall winner and runner up, and then class winners on 1 second intervals (ie, closest to 9 flat, 10 flat, 11 flat, etc).

Normally it occurs on public roadways but when we go to Joliet the whole cruise takes place on property. We get to cross the street and do a few laps on the Chicagoland Speedway circle track.

In order to get onto the track you have to pass through a tunnel. You better believe everybody gets on the throttle when they go through that tunnel!

I bet a lot of people were unaware that many tanks were powered by radial engines and they did a great job as well.

I just recently went flying with the guys in that very same airplane last year and repeated it from a flight in 1974 which was my first ever airplane ride and what started it all. Great airplane.

This is what Barris started with: 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III. There were four cars built for the film in six weeks. Three were used as stunt mules, the fourth for closeups. The stunt mules were destroyed during production, while the fourth is now in a private collection.

The movie is currently on Netflix

The lower body paint stripe was standard on the 1968 GS 400 though you rarely ever see them.

Bill S (olredalert):

I am absolutely amazed as to how many ultra rare Corvettes you have come in contact with. I think I found one for which you had no involvement. See next post.

----Lee,,,While I don't have any direct contact with this ZL1 I do know well all but two of its former owners. Also know most of its history from when Wayne Walker found the car. At one point there was a south Florida owner who also owned a 1/2 ton 72ish Chevy pickup that also had a ZL1 engine. It had a 100 or more gallon gas tank in the bed full of 110 octane fuel. Anther friend from Coral Gables who owns a beautiful 67 L88 Corvette drove it to Bloomington Gold from Fl. with a friend of his driving the truck with the needed 110. A great Corvette guy, Roger Judski, from central Florida now owns the car......Bill S

Since Bill passed on this one (;)) I'll step up:

George Heberling was the Assistant Staff Engineer for the Engineering/Assembly Liaison group at the St Louis plant. George drove one of the ZL1 Corvettes as his company vehicle.

I went to GMI (aka General Motors Institute, now Kettering University) with George's son, Kris.

Planned auto-auction complex means Atco Dragway could go away

Quote:

After 60 years, the roar of engines could be silenced at Atco Dragway.

An Illinois firm has proposed converting the racetrack into an auction site for used cars, according to an application before the state's Pinelands Commission.

Insurance Auto Auctions expects to spend almost $1.9 million to redevelop the 180-acre site off Jackson Road, the application says.

The track's owner, Leonard Capone Jr., could not be reached for immediate comment Monday. Capone bought the track in 2012, according to a Courier-Post story from that time.
