Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Thanks Kurt!!
I borrowed the exact same compressor Dan V uses to remove mine and plan to reverse for install. Still need to press the upper bushings in and install upper ball joints, I got the same rivet/bolts:-) do I use blue locktite' on them? Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Yes....blue loctite and use the lock washers provided.

Finally a little progress, had a busy spell:-) :-(
I bead blasted the front flex hose brackets (as they mount on one of the bolts on the spindle/steering knuckle) need to get them painted. pressed in the bushings in the front upper control arms:-) The look great!! I am happy to get started using more of my AMK bolt kit. Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Thanks Kevin
I am mainly "working" on deciding on an engine builder...... Several options but I need to visit one or two more builders on my recommended list. So far every builder I have visited I feel would be a great selection so I am honing in on a couple to make a final choise from. (Honing:-) I have planned and researched hundreds of options and in the end the costs are so high I will be going very W31 stock/basic. (I had planned to eventually build a second for PSMCDR, but that ain't happening any time soon so this one will get street use and twice a year drag race use) I have a friend visiting soon to help Dad and I rebuild my differential, so I have been getting ready for this as well. Plan to build a workbench and get all ready Saturday. I have wheel studs on order with another InLine Tune order, and one axle bearing retainer soon to be overnight shipped. (Otherwise I feel I have everything) I can progress on the suspension but I need to focus on the rear and engine or the project will get moving nicely and then grind to a halt. Ryan |

SNG Award 2016!!! (SNG = Super Nice Guy)
Nick Morocco is coming to Canada this week and we will assemble my differential. Nick is also bringing my M20 and Super Comp Shifter all rebuilt ready to go:-) Nick has also agreed to take my M22 and go through it as well. My prediction is that it will be in good untouched condition.......... My Dad delayed their departure to be part of this enjoyable event:-) We all met and became instant friends at 2014 MCAN L89 Showcase. I am working a little each night to be ready. Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Spent a few hours preparing.
Got solvent cleaning a few items, soaking the carrier over night. Making up tools to install bearing races, and seals "nicely". Bead blasted the pinion yoke and washer, and the axle flanges. Removed the large pinion bearing. Bought a brush to clean down inside each axle tube, lithium grease for the seal surfaces during assembly, brake cleaner, semi gloss black paint, etc. Need to clean more parts tomorrow night!!!! Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Looking forward to putting the rear end in the chassis:-) It needs a few parts installed first:-)

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Nick Morocco, Dad and I rebuilt my TM rear today, (Nick assembled, Dad helped Nick, and I cleaned every part and kept the tools flowing)
Every part fit perfectly, backlash is perfect, pinion preload is perfect, pattern is perfect, I am a happy guy!! I went over this in my mind for weeks and we had everything we needed!!!!! Yeah!! I can't thank Nick enough for this help, he came way out of his way from business in Toronto to share his expertise, and at the same time dropped off my ready to go M20, and Comp Plus Shifter, and picked up my M22, and Street Super Shifter for a rebuild. This is a major step forward for my project and is so appreciated!!!! NICK is a ROCK STAR in our books!!! I took very few pictures as we were on a tight timeline before the Mounties catch up with Nick and kick him out of Canada for stealing all our maple syrup:-) Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
You are on fire:-)
Ryan PS: i gathered up the parts related to the rear tonight, found I didn't order the rear axle bumpers :-( no delay just that I spent an hour looking for something I don't have. |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The one remaining rear end task to do is to set up the pinion gear to side gear/clutch clearance.
Nick Morocco showed me how the whole assembly works and we only had a limited time to assemble and set up the rear so this was left for me (the trained differential guy:-) Supercars Unlimited details the shimming process in this link, 0.001" to 0.005" backlash when the side gear is pushed tight into the carrier with the special tool (Big flat screw driver) I set up each side with the shims provided but need more shims as the kit only comes with four 0.006" shims, each side works out perfectly with the 0.024" so I will order. http://www.supercarsunlimited.com/in...n/antispin.htm You can see in this picture I am setting the clearance on the clutches on the ring gear side and the non ring gear side gear/clutches/friction plates/spacers are out. I really enjoy learning this stuff!! Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics..._clearance.jpg |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Accomplishment #2 last night............. Daddy needs a new pair of shoes:-)
Beautiful, Oldsmobile loving wife buys shoes, I buy rims. Thanks Robert D'Antonio: he sold me the rims off El Malo, from one W31 to another. These are the 1969 14 X 6 SS11's, notice the trim ring is smaller and sharper lines than the 14 X 7 ring. I love the look of these:-) Some guys hate them, whatever!! (MINE) Here is a good link for Oldsmobile rims.
