An ultra-rare 1970 Ford Falcon XY GT in “barn find” condition recently sold at auction for $230,000 in Sydney, Australia. Over 400 bids were placed before the hammer went down.

I saw one of these on the street in Sydney in 1970 and remember thinking how can a FOUR DOOR Falcon be considered cool?? It did sound healthy though! - Bill W

I have always been surprised by that too. Seems those poor blokes only ever had 4 doors for hot rods...:frown:

It made its way to Hinsdale shortly after that and was spiffed up a bit but was in remarkably good shape. I used to take it home for lunch (I lived 3 blocks away). As you can see it has one piece power side windows and a very custom one of grille among many other special features that you can spot when you pull up the Mecum add. Every day was fun at Classic Motors!

Absolutely beautiful car :eek2: That interior is over the top, with the leather instrument/dash panels.

I was surprised to see it has an automatic and a 3 speed to boot. Bill, did you ever look into the trans ? AFAIK, the only hydramatic 400 in '64 was a Buick, with the BOP bellhousing bolt pattern. Curious how they adapted it to the Chev engine.

Have to agree Bill. I get supply and demand; but that car is just too plain and ugly to justify $230k!!!!

Most of the cars I see the Aussies post as fast and hot rods are all 4 doors. I don't recall seeing a 2 door car down there, other than a Ute. Seems the whole world has gone friggen NUTS with prices of almost any car that burns gasoline now as a collector. I don't understand it, but mostly, I don't understand where all the money is coming from to support this level of craziness. I sure as hell couldn't buy any of my cars in this atmosphere.
