Terry and I took the frame back to the media blaster for round two, some small missed spots, and to go over the areas we welded around the two body mounts.
I think shiny parts next week, getting very close to going late to my schedule:-( I need to spend a little time in the garage preparing, cleaning, putting up shelves, etc. Starting to figure out what is and what isn't available as far as Olds 350 W-31 engine build parts go:-) a few experts chiming in on CO:-) Ryan Had a great chat otw there and back:-) Fun!! |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Researched a few more rod, piston, ring combinations tonight:-)
Then took a little look at the warranty short block:-) I guess the high school students must have taken it apart as the piston I removed had only the oil ring, and all the connecting rod bolts were barely tight. The engine looks in good condition so far. Dan </div></div> Very good advice Dan. I would also add that it needs to be pressure tested. This way you KNOW there aren't any issues with the block. Kurt BTW........clean out your PM box Ryan. |

I have seen this offered for cylinder block and for cylinder head...... Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Our machine shop bakes and blasts the block. They install the freeze plugs, I prefer brass over steel, then mount a steel plate to one side of the block, where the head mounts. They apply 50 pounds of air pressure and watch for any loss of pressure. After that, they do the same thing to the other side. Much more affective than magnaflux. Magnaflux is good for checking around the main saddles.....areas where there are no coolant passages.
Kurt The cost is $150 |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I got word that my powder coated parts will be ready tomorrow after work:-)
I cleaned the garage to get organized, assembled a steel shelf to get some heavy parts up off the floor, and swept and blew out all the books and crannies:-) I have a couple potential parts bought if we can agree on the details...... The set of 14 X 6 SS11's off El Malo and a set of #5 heads, a distributor, and a set of exhaust manifolds with the passenger heat shield. The engine parts would most likely be for the PSMCDR engine..... TBD. I have gained so much engine build information and have a few combinations mapped out.... There are an infinite amount of variations and options, even within the PS rules:-) |

Life is like a box of chocolates:-)
You never know what you are going to get. Well today I got shiny parts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! Whoot Whoot!! I am very pleased with the results, the overall appearance is very very good!! Some pitting shows up as explained by the Coating company but the vast majority is on the top surfaces so it will never been seen again other than all-O-y'all here on the interweb:-) Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-img_4868.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-img_4869.jpg |

The grey parts will be powder coated tomorrow and we will pick up on Wednesday.
