For almost effortless oven cleaning, fill a bowl with ammonia and set it in an unheated oven overnight; remove the bowl the next day. The ammonia’s fumes will have loosened the gunk so you can wipe it off with a wet sponge or paper towel.

For pesky stickers that won’t budge, soak a paper towel in vinegar. Place it over the sticker for five to ten minutes. The vinegar will weaken the adhesive.

Vinegar treats athlete’s foot. Because vinegar is a potent disinfectant, soaking your feet twice daily for ten minutes in one part vinegar and four parts water may help treat this fungal infection.

Add two tablespoons of baking soda to the usual amount of dishwashing liquid you use. It will give your detergent a powerful boost and easily clean greasy dishes.

To clean up marks, glue, or paint from a table, try this teacher’s trick: Spray a dollop of shaving cream on the surface and spread with a dry sponge. Leave for five to 15 minutes. Wipe off with a damp sponge. Essentially condensed soap, shaving cream will leave the table squeaky clean.

Petroleum jelly prevents rust. Apply a thin layer to the surface in question (e.g., outdoor machinery, nuts and bolts, and chrome on bikes). The petroleum jelly will protect the metal from moisture and air, both of which encourage rust.

Television and PC screens are electrically charged, which causes them to attract dust. Since the sheets are designed to reduce static cling, they’ll remove dust and prevent it from resettling for several days. Polish glass screens with the sheets after they’ve been in the dryer, for a softer texture.

If you spot cockroaches or other crawly creatures in your kitchen, mix equal parts baking soda and sugar, then sprinkle in the corners of the room. Insects are attracted to the sweet mixture but die when they can’t properly digest the baking soda.

Forget pouring the cooking water from boiled foods down the drain. As long as it’s not salted, your plants will be more than happy to drink it once it has cooled. Both hard-boiled eggs and steamed vegetables leave valuable minerals behind, making the water a source of nutrients for your garden.

Lemon peels deodorizer garbage disposals. Put this fruit’s fresh scent to use by running the peels down your garbage disposal. The rinds help neutralize unwanted odors and clear any grease buildup.

Benchmark US oil prices crashed into negative territory for the first time in history as the evaporation of demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic leaves the world awash with oil and not enough storage capacity

Not all oil contracts are trading in negative territory. Brent, the international benchmark, lost 9 per cent on Monday to fall to $25 a barrel, but is less immediately afflicted by storage issues. Brent is a seaborne crude market allowing traders to easily ship it to areas of higher demand. Amrita Sen at Energy Aspects said: “With Brent you can put it on ships and move it around the world immediately."

The upcoming Chevy Corvette Z06 will be the first of several upcoming ultra-high-performance variants of the C8 Corvette. We expect it to go on sale in early 2021 as a 2022 model, starting at about $85,000. It's a return to the stripped-down-for-action, high-revving, track-worthy Vette embodied by the 505-hp 7.0-liter V-8-powered C6 Z06 of 2006 through 2013.

This time, the Z06 will use a naturally aspirated DOHC 32-valve 5.5-liter V-8. Plus, it has a flat-plane crank, just like a Ferrari V-8. It should rev to between 8500 and 9000 rpm, spit out 600-plus horsepower, and shriek like something from Ferrari. It feeds an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transaxle driving the rear wheels. This is no mere speculation; a detuned version of this engine is already powering the C8.R race car.

NOTE: photo is of a regular C8 Corvette

1796: The World’s First Department Store Opens. The title for the world's first department store likely belongs to Harding, Howell & Co's Grand Fashionable Magazine shop in London, which appealed to fashionable women with the novel idea of offering four separate departments within the same store. This ability to offer more diverse merchandise was the result of the cheap labor and increased productivity sparked by the Industrial Revolution.

1851: The Crystal Palace Opens. An early iteration of the modern mall came with the opening of London's Crystal Palace, which was created to showcase consumer goods from around the globe. The structure was designed to showcase the scope of the British Empire but instead served as a blueprint for the massive indoor malls that gained in popularity over the following centuries.

1930: The First Supermarket Opens. King Kullen in Queens, New York, lays claim to the title of the nation's first supermarket, opened by former Kroger employee Michael J. Cullen. Cullen pitched his idea for "monstrous stores with plenty of parking space" in a letter to Kroger's vice president that went unanswered, leaving him to build it himself.

1956: Interstates Unite America. Inspired by the German autobahns he saw in World War II, President Eisenhower oversaw the development of a $130 billion interstate highway network that connected Americans more than ever before. Thousands were employed to build and maintain the new roads, which facilitated the development of new suburbs while increasing commerce and travel between states.

1957: The First Japanese Car Sells in the US. The fledgling Toyota Motor Corp. took advantage of a late-'50s lull in the American economy to introduce the Toyopet Crown, a smaller alternative to the gas-guzzling American muscle cars popular at the time. American companies hoped consumers would continue buying their brands out of patriotism, but soon changed many standards to meet those of their Asian competitors.

1958: Bank of America Introduces the Credit Card. Companies had been granting credit long before the BankAmericard was launched in Fresno, California, but this was the first time a card would be accepted by a large number of third-party sellers. The postwar reliance on credit had begun, causing both periods of economic boom and massive consumer debt.

You can figure out the color of a chicken egg by looking at the chicken's earlobes. Yes, even though they don't have outer ears, chickens do have earlobes, and they vary in color, from white to much darker varieties. That's probably not that surprising, but the correlation between earlobe color and egg color certainly is. Chickens with white earlobes lay white eggs, while chickens with darker brown earlobes lay—you guessed it—brown eggs.
