Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Terry and I went to Waterloo to pick up the primered rims, and the frame.
Dropped off the rear lower control arm after a little metal work. I found the VIN on the frame:-) A little tough to see but i got a few good pictures:-) Had a great engine building conversation on the way back, Ramblers and Oldsmobiles are similar in a few ways..... 6 inch rods and hard to find parts. Thanks Terry!!!!! "It takes a village" Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-img_4775.jpg |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Double W-31 Delight today!!!! Mail Man showed up with another load of Inline Tube parts:-)
Lots of little items:-) Engine and trans mounts, hoses, u-joints, stickers, emblems, core supports, rad saddle mounts and shims, gas tank straps, exhast manifold gaskets, thermosat, and gasket, rear axle to backing plate gaskets, wheel well moulding screws, rear sway bar shims, bolts, nuts, washers, gas tank vent, clutch boot, etc, etc!! The stickers are a little premature but while I was having items shipped (might as well) Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...77-41208-4.jpg |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I got the small repair rings laid out on the bare frame:-)
Measured a few hundred times, used an original frame dimensioned drawing. All the diagonal measurements look good plus or minus an eighth of an inch. Plan to try to get these welded Thursday after work........ so I can get the frame back to the media blaster. I should have shiny parts next week, on my revised schedule I need to be done the frame this month:-) Making some engine plans, in a couple weeks I will visit FJ Smith in Cayuga, we seemed to be on the same page with my goals and budget and they dyno tune everything (which is one of my main sticking points) Also inventoried all my new parts:-) one little issue but Inline will fix it up no problem:-) Last time I thought I was missing the tiny U shaped brake lines from the flex line to the wheel cylinders up front and had to force him to hold off till I could check and double check. Also somehow I bought a tire pressure sticker for a Hurst Olds with 15 inch tires, I can give it away at PSMCDR to the Polyglass Pimp:-) Ryan |

Remind me to let you in on a little secret about these Are your original gas tank straps missing? What is wrong with them? Dan |

Dan </div></div> Brake line class at NOCC, Deal The original gas tank straps looked pretty rough, I haven't tried to restore them, and this could be an item that I "over bought" When things start going back together I am trying to be as prepared as possible. Tiny things can hold me up especially being in Canada (Those parts took weeks to arrive) The originals and the new are galvanized so if my originals will shine up perfectly I will use them and sell the new parts. A few pictures from preparing last night to repair the two body mount holes second from the back of the frame on both sides.

So I added a little fun to the build:-)
Tracker1 has the perfect addition to my W-31 a Hurst Ram Rod Shifter to go behind my Ram Rod 350:-) This will be perfect on my M22!! Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Leave that cut up floor hump alone.....until you have this ready to install
Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
That's the new plan:-)
I have a new 4 speed hump section lined up and it will sit aside for a little while:-) Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Did you ask Tracker1 if the Ram Rod comes with bushing shims? You will have to do research.....if they are needed for your application on an Olds? I believe they are needed.
I will email you a picture of the bushing. Dan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Ryan.......here's my two cents. If you don't mind modifying your tunnel......do it now cause you'll regret not doing it later and eventually, you WILL put the Ram Rod in. Ask me how I know.

Kurt. </div></div> I am on board:-) This has been sitting in the back of my mind for a while, and I agree to restore/repair the hump would mean never cutting it up again, so fun now Concours later:-) I will have the piece of floor on the shelf ready to go. Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Rushed around like a fool after work today:-)
Went to Terry's and borrowed his welder, raced back home in an ice storm to meet my friend the welder. We measured using the original frame drawing and what I had laid out was bang on using diagonal, side to side and front to back measurements:-) I wanted a second guy to go over them with me before opening up the holes for the replacement metal rings, as it is hard to get accurate measurements solo. We ground out the bad material (about 1/4 inch around two body mount holes) and welded in two more rings, then ground with a flapper wheel and used the die grinder underneath to dress it up, looks like a million bucks:-) I felt like a dink, I had to steal the power from the stove for the welder as the family was cooking chili for dinner:-( I guess I have heard of worse things:-) Frame is now ready to go back form blasting:-) Monday/Tuesday.
