Finished trunk shot. The jacking instructions are original! I was able to peel it off and glue it back after we jammed the deck lid. The spatter paint is original. I did not restore the spatter paint on the trunk floor either. The car did not originally have a trunk mat but I think it finished it off nicely.

The car is basically complete now. The Ellis Brooks emblem (eBay score) is the crown jewel. I had other plans for the black panel but this expensive little piece of pot metal greatness trumped those plans. The car really deserved this in my opinion. As I prepared to drill three little holes in my car I looked in the trunk to find where we welded up the old holes where an emblem exactly like this used to sit. I never would've guessed I'd find the correct emblem, let alone an NOS one. I figured the original emblem was taken off in 1969 when this car was traded in to Stewart Chevrolet, competitor dealer also in San Francisco, which would never want to advertise for Ellis Brooks. They just left holes right in the tail panel and sold it like that :eek2:. I'm really happy with the result!
Also got the Hotchkis frame connectors installed. Noticeable difference! Back end doesn't want to come around under heavy acceleration anymore, goes straight even though it'll roast the tires thru 2nd gear at 70mph! Also a lot less creaking, especially in and out of driveways, bumps etc. This car is an absolute BEAST! |
Looks awesome Chuck!

Awesome, stunning, superlative, way cool....what other words are there to describe this ? You've done a superb job of building this and the care and detail are evident.

Thank you guys for the nice words. The car came together nicely. I am truly very pleased, impressed, happy, excited with the car. I'm very grateful for all the help I've received along the way, I got some great friends!
On another subject, last Saturday I sold my blue '68 Camaro. I've had it 19 years... Lots of good memories with that car but I want something different and can't manage or afford more than 2 of these old clunkers right now. The car was sold to a friend and it'll be taken care of, even though he might stuff a 572 between the fenders and turn it into a nostalgic pro stock looking car! Looks like I may be buying a certain very nice '67 Chevelle... |
