So what is the real horsepower and torque ratings for the Chrysler 340 Magnum and 340 Six Pak? In a recent engine build two 340s were built exactly as Chrysler spec'd them out. Then each was put on a dyno. The results . . . 320 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 368 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm versus the advertised 275 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 340 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm and 352.1 horsepower and 395.9 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm versus the advertised ratings of 290 HP @ 5,000 and 345 lb-ft @ 3,400 for the 340 Six Pak.

The incorrect placement of the engine callout emblem on this Nova SS reminds me of a joke . . .
Poor Casper Milktoast . . . he has absolutely no luck with girls. So he decides to try to remedy this by seeking out his high school's most successful "Don Juan" . . . Joe Kool.
"Joe . . . I have no luck with girls and you do. Can you PLEASE give me some advice to help me!"
"Well Casper . . . if you can't make it . . . you have to fake it!"
"And how will I do that Joe?"
"Just take a pair of socks, roll em up and stick that in your pants."
So the next day Casper has a little more confidence walking through the halls of his school smiling at girls but unfortunately he still has no luck. So once again he seeks out Joe Kool . . .
"Joe . . . I did what you told me to do and the situation got worse! All the girls were laughing at me!"
"Show me what you did Casper . . ."
"Jesus Casper! You're supposed to put the roll of socks in the front of your pants not the back!"

One of the most exotic options ever offered on a muscle car: Olds's 1970 W27 Aluminum Differential. Introduced on 10/10/69 for $157.98 you got some very real benefits:
1. 22 pounds lighter than a cast iron rear - improved handing due to less unsprung weight
2. The aluminum fins on the cover reduced differential temperature by 20 degrees.
3. Held an additional pint of gear oil over a conventional axle.

The 1969 Chrysler A12 - the only muscle car ever to come with a lift off hood and no hubcaps. This was a SERIOUS muscle car: 4.10 Dana 60 rear with Sure-Grip, either a 4 speed or auto trans, 15x6" wheels with G70x15 Redline Polyglas tires, HD engine internals, HD cooling package and HD 11" Drum Brakes - all standard.
What Chrysler did was take a Road Runner or Super Bee, add the 440+6 engine, the fiberglass lift off hood (the only part that was specially made for the car) then added the Super Performance Axle Package minus the front disc brakes and power booster, Hemi 15x6" HD wheels and wide G70 tires (the Hemi cars only had F70s) and skipped the hubcaps in favor of chrome lug nuts
You all know the story about Ronnie Sox taking a showroom stock 4 speed equipped A12 Road Runner and recording a 1/4 ET of 12.98. To do this two things happened: they removed the air cleaner assembly and . . . Sox was shifting WITHOUT THE CLUTCH! He was shifting at 5200 RPM. Think about that for a moment - if he had missed a single shift he would have grenaded both the engine and the transmission - in a brand new car, with Chrysler engineers and magazine people watching his performance. Ronnie "Mr. 4 Speed" Sox . . . a legend in his own time

For the 1967 model year both the 442 and W30 options were only available on the Cutlass Supreme. This differed from 1966 where the 442 option was available on all models

All 1965 GT350s were shipped to Shelby as seat belt delete Mustang 2+2s. Shelby then installed 3" Ray Brown Automotive racing seat belts which were anchored at the Mustang's Federally Mandated Anchor Points.

The only Ford HiPo 289s to have a Holley carb (715 CFM) were the 1965 - 1967 GT350s equipped with a 4 speed. All 1963 - 1967 HiPo 289s including the 1966 and 1967 GT350s built with an automatic got the Ford Autolite 4100 series carb (460 CFM)

ALL Ford 289 HiPo cars received cast iron motor mounts which were much stronger than stamped steel units. This was done to anticipate the cars use at the drag strip where high RPM clutch dumps were common.

What makes this 1969 Boss 302 unique is that the original buyer was Chrysler Corp. Chrysler bought the car to compare it to it's forth coming Challenger TA and 'Cuda AAR. The practice was called "benchmarking."

Originally BULLITT was to have an all Ford car chase. WB had a promotion agreement with Ford who provided 2 Mustangs and 2 Galaxies. Unfortunately the Galaxies could not handle the rigors that Director Peter Yates and Actor Steve McQueen wanted. Both Galaxies were quickly damaged (due to the rigid body-on-frame construction) in testing. So instead two Charger R/Ts were purchased from a local Dodge dealership. The 1968 Charger like the 1968 Mustang had a unitized body and frame construction making the car more flexible when landing from the extreme jumps.

From April 1968 through the 1970 model year, if you wanted the 428 CJ engine in your Mustang and you also wanted a 4 speed you could not order A/C. You had to order the auto to get A/C. But . . . at the end of the 1970 model run, 11 428 CJ 4 speed Mach 1s were built with A/C according to Ford Guru Kevin Marti. All 11 exist today.

As long and as extensive the Mustang's option lists were, there was one important option that was not available until the 1971 model year . . . . . . . power windows.
